From UndisclosedComments about Meloxicam (Generic)Has added a couple years of more comfort for my stiff goldendoodle. We had tried everything and nothing was working any more for her arthritis. Huge difference when we started this. Need a smaller dose pill. -

Made a huge difference
From undisclosedComments about Meloxicam (Generic)My old girl (13 yo golden) was still super painful with her pain control regimen. After discussing the risk vs benefit with her vet we decided to try Meloxicam and after 1 week the difference is huge. She is happy and playful again. -

Keeps My Nine Year Old Lab Going
From Asheville, NC, USAComments about Meloxicam (Generic)My vet prescribed the Meloxicam for my 9 yr old lab's arthritis pain. The xrays showed severe bone deterioration. She was limping, having a hard time going up and down the stairs, and having a hard time jumping into the back of my car, but with the medicine, she's like her young self again. We hike about 3-5 miles a day in the mountains, and she couldn't do it w/o her medicine. Also, Vetrx sells it 75% cheaper than my vets office. -
Easy, quick service!
From South Windsor, CT, USAComments about Meloxicam (Generic)My vet suggested checking online for pricing on Meloxicam vs Rimadyl (which we had been getting from the vet) for our dog. Meloxicam was a big saving and worked just as well for our aging Newfie. The processing of the order was easy with quick delivery. I placed the order online and called the vet to let them know. Their response was "We place orders through vetrxdirect all the time." That same day them confirmed the order it was shipped out! Will definitely use vetrxdirect again. -
Effective and affordable
From UndisclosedComments about Meloxicam (Generic)Using this for an older Collie who was having trouble moving around due to stiffness in joints. Other dog specific NSAID and the liquid meloxicam from the vet were too expensive for daily use. Was able to try half a pill of this generic meloxicam, and our dog is up and moving again within a week! He is also taking it along with some liquid glucosamine on his food each day.

I have a 5lb 8oz Yorkie who has bad hips and knees. If I were to give him Meloxicam what dosage would I give him and is it available in tablet form??
-
Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain medication that is available in tablet and liquid form. However, due to your dog’s weight, you may find it easier to use the liquid formulation since the dosage for your dog will be small. Please consult your veterinarian who can recommend the appropriate dose for your dog.

I have a great Pyrenees that weights 140lb. Having a hard getting around. Would be possible to give him half of a 15mg. Tablet that I use to help him til I can get him to the vet. It's like pulling teeth to get him to go anywhere, extremely scared of cars or rides?
-
The use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in your dog would require a prescription from your veterinarian. Your vet may want to check the kidney and liver function of your dog prior to beginning therapy and more frequently upon starting therapy to help ensure the safety of your dog. Please contact your pet's veterinarian regarding the use of this medication.

my dog currently is using Metacam 1.5mg/ml Oral Suspension ...I see that the meloxicam comes in 7.5 and 15mg....what is equal to the Metacam my dog currently takes? which one should I order?
-
To know which strength of Meloxicam tablets would match your dog's strength of Metacam, we need to know how much liquid medication you are giving to your dog in each dose. Please consider discussing this with your veterinarian.

How much would you give a dog that weighs 15 lbs.?
-
A typical maintenance dose is 0.05 - 0.1 milligrams per kilogram. A 15 pound dog weighs approximately 7 kilograms so a standard dose would be 0.35 milligrams to 0.7 milligrams per day. Your veterinarian will be able to assist you in determining the most appropriate dose for your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My vet has prescribed the 7.5 mg tablets for my 60-64 lbs 11 year old GSD female with bad hip dysplasia & has told me to give her 1/3 nightly. These are TINY tablets that aren't really able to be chopped into thirds. Will 1/2 a tablet instead be okay to give her? She gets the meloxicam, 1 tramadol (50 mg) & glucosamin-chondroitin each night inside a small piece of Velveeta cheese. Thanks!?
-
The usual dose for chronic pain control when using meloxicam would be around 2.5mg or one third of a tablet for your dog. A half of a tablet or 3.75mg would exceed the maximum recommended dose for a dog between 60 and 64lb. Increasing the dose of this medication to above the recommended dose could cause side effects such as abnormal bleeding or bruising, stomach upset, and kidney injury. There is a liquid suspension available, which would require a new prescription. The liquid may be easier to measure and ensure your dog is getting an accurate dose. If this is an option that you are interested in, please contact your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My 66 lb Chocolate lab was taking etodolac and I'm out-can I give her Meloxicam? I have 15 mg tablets.?
-
Etodolac and meloxicam are both non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents and are similar in their mode of action. Although they work very similarly, there are difference between the medications to consider. Meloxicam stays in the body much longer than etodolac and requires a 5-7 day washout period before starting etodolac up again or any other medication in the same drug class. Meloxicam can be used appropriately in dogs, but it would not be advised to administer your current supply if it was not intended for her initially. The 15mg meloxicam tablets would be a dosage far in excess of the standard dosing for dogs. It would be best to contact your veterinarian to discuss which non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and dose would be appropriate for your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Hi there, My vet have recommended Previcox (100mg)and maybe Tramadol for my 60 LB dog. But I have looked around and this medication seems to be similar, would it work and what is the recommended dosage mg pr lb, please????
-
Both Previcox (firocoxib) and meloxicam are a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used for pain and inflammation. Meloxicam is dosed at 0.1 mg/kg (approx: 0.045 mg/lb). In your case, the dog would need a dose of around 2.5 mg. The lowest strength of meloxicam available in tablet form is 7.5 mg. Alternatively there are liquid formulations of meloxicam available. As always, you should first discuss this with your veterinarian which non-steroidal anti-inflammatory would be most appropriate for your pet. Thank you, VetRxDirect

My black lab weighs 95 lbs and I give her 2 15mg tablets daily and it seems to be quite effective. Is this about right ??
-
Most veterinary resources would indicate that this dose is going to be too high for your 95 lb lab. However, your veterinarian also will take into consideration many factors when determining the appropriate dose for your dog. As with all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as meloxicam, it is recommended to use the lowest effective dose to avoid adverse effects. It is important to contact your veterinarian and ask them about the dose you are giving your lab to verify that it is correct. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I give my Labby/Chow 1/4 of a 7.5 Meloxicam nightly. Will this cause her to itch all of the time? Tonya?
-
According to the manufacturer's package insert, itching is a potential side effect from meloxicam. Speak with your veterinarian about the itching your dog is having. Your vet may want to evaluate whether the itching is a side effect of meloxicam or caused by another condition such as allergies or dry skin. Thank you, VetRxDirect
