Vitamin B-12 Injection
Vitamin B-12 is a prescription injectable medication that contains concentrated source of vitamin B-12, also called cobalamin. Vitamin B-12 is a water soluble vitamin that helps with brain and nervous system functions, and the formation of red blood cells. Dogs and cats can be deficient in this vitamin, especially those with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) prevents animals from being able digest and absorb the nutrients from food, due to lack of digestive enzymes in the pancreas. Your veterinarian may prescribe vitamin B-12 injections if your pet has been diagnosed with pancreatic insufficiency or a digestive disorder. Injection is available in 100mcg in 100 ml and 250 ml bottles. Needles and syringes sold separately.

I am using this product for the first time for my CKD cat. Please excuse my ignorance as a first-timer.I was told to dose between 250-500 Mcg. This bottle says 1000 mcg. Is this what I need? and if shelf life is 28 days, and I am to inject this into his subq once a week; will there be extra that I will need to dispose? Should I purchase a smaller bottle? I was purchasing B-12 filled needles exact dose from my vet prior to this. Thank you!?

If you delivered 500 mcg (0.5 milliliters) each week until the product expires, there would still be a significant amount left in the bottle that you would need to dispose of.

Both bottles contain 1000 mcg/mL. The shelf life after the bottle has been puncture for the first time is 28 days from that date. The expiration date on the bottle is assigned by the manufacturer and is what you should follow if the bottle has not been opened.
