The mg/kg dose for each drug is based upon dosage determination studies done during early drug development. Zenrelia and Apoquel are in the same drug class (JAK inhibitors) but contain different active ingredients. It is common for drugs in the same drug class to have different approved dosages. The dosage of Zenrelia has been optimized for simple, continuous, once daily dosing from the start.

The Boxed Warning provides important information about appropriate use of Zenrelia, which your veterinarian has taken into account when prescribing the medication for your individual dog. Specifically, the Boxed Warning advises discontinuation of Zenrelia for at least 28 days to 3 months prior to vaccination and withholding Zenrelia for at least 28 days after vaccination due to the risk of inadequate immune response to vaccines. Zenrelia is FDA-approved, meaning it has undergone rigorous testing and has been shown to be safe and effective when used according to these label instructions.

Zenrelia is approved to treat skin allergies in dogs, including canine atopic dermatitis (CAD), flea allergy, food allergies, and contact dermatitis.

Although Zenrelia and Apoquel are the same class of drug (JAK inhibitors) with the same indications for treatment, they contain different active ingredients. Apoquel contains oclacitinib and Zenrelia contains ilunocitinib.

Zenrelia is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and begins to work quickly. Visible improvements in itch may be seen within 24hrs.

Zenrelia should be given once daily. Use can be started or stopped at any time, without loading doses (multiple doses a day) or tapering (slowing stopping over time). Discuss any dosing changes with your veterinarian. One intended use for Zenrelia is canine atopic dermatitis (CAD), which is a chronic condition, so there is no limit on duration of use. As with any prescription, follow your veterinarian’s instructions for giving your dog Zenrelia.

Zenrelia tablets are not flavored.
