I have a leftover bottle of TrizCHLOR from our previous dog, who had severe problems, and it worked really well. Can it be used on dogs without skin issues.?
-
TrizChlor contains chlorhexidine gluconate, which is a n antimicrobial that helps against causes of particular skin conditions. Chlorhexidine can cause dryness and other side effects that make it not recommended for long term use or use on dogs without those skin conditions. Please consult your veterinarian if you have questions about what products would be best for your dog.

Is it safe for fairly long term use (the wipes), considering that it contains a corticosteroid? Not sure if that is okay for long term usage??
-
The TrizChlor 4 wipes do not contain a steroid. The main active ingredients for the TrizChlor 4 topical products, including the wipes, are chlorhexidine gluconate and TrizEDTA. Of these ingredients, the long term use of chlorhexidine may impair wound healing, particularly on skin lesions that are actively healing. The TrizChlor 4HC shampoo and spray conditioner do contain 1% Hydrocortisone, a topical corticosteroid. At this time, the manufacturer of TrizChlor, does not offer the wipes in the HC formulation. According to Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook, hydrocortisone is considered a low potency topical corticosteroid, and is indicated for relatively short durations of use. Under the direction and guidance of a veterinarian, longer term use of topical products containing hydrocortisone may be recommended with a proper monitoring schedule. Long-term, frequent use of topical hydrocortisone can cause suppression to functions of the pituitary and adrenal glands. Please contact your veterinarian regarding any further questions or concerns regarding this medication in your pet.

My vet prescribed the Trizchlor 4 Spray Conditioner for bacterial dermatitis. When I spray it on my dog, the entire fur area dries to a gummy stiff mess that can only be removed by a bath. Can I dilute it? Can you suggest any better way to apply it? It's not usable this way.?
-
When administering, part the hair and spray directly on affected skin. Brushing hair after administration may be helpful. Diluting is not recommended as the main ingredient chlorhexidine will not work as well. If your dog needs administration to large areas of the body or the conditioner is not preferred, the Trizchlor 4 shampoo is an effective alternative. However, when using Trizchlor 4 shampoo, make sure the shampoo sits for at least 10 minutes before rinsing for maximum effectiveness.
