I know it can be weeks before it starts to work, but how long does it take to know if it causes GI upset??
-
According to Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook, adverse effects of selegiline include vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, disorientation, aggression, repetitive movements or lethargy, salivation, and anorexia. GI effects may be seen immediately. If this occurs, consult with your veterinarian as a lower dose or temporary pause in therapy may be recommended. If you have additional questions, please consult with your veterinarian about their recommendations if side effects of selegiline occur.

Can Selegiline capsules be broken apart and given as half a dose??
-
While capsules can be opened and the contents given as a half dose, this method requires additional steps to ensure the pet is getting the prescribed dose. There are other options available to make administration easier for you and your pet. Selegiline is also available as a tablet, which can be broken in half, or crushed and mixed with food. Selegiline is also available as the brand name Anipryl for dogs, in different strengths of tablets. It is recommended that you speak to your veterinarian about your options with this medication.

I am prescribed 2 mg. for my fur baby. Can this pill be cut in half??
-
Selegiline is currently available in a 5 mg tablet or capsule. Splitting the 5mg tablet would provide 2.5 mg of Selegiline, which is over the prescribed dosage. Please consult with your veterinarian regarding the appropriate dosage of this medication for your pet.
