What is Revolution for Dogs?
- Revolution is a prescription topical heartworm preventative and parasiticide medication for dogs.
- Revolution contains Selamectin to protect dogs against fleas, American dog ticks, heartworm, sarcoptic mange, and ear mites for one month.
Why is Revolution used for dogs?
- Revolution is a prescription, topical heartworm preventive.
- Revolution kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month, and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations.
- In dogs, Revolution also treats and controls ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and American dog tick infestations.
What else should I know about Revolution?
- Revolution is for topical treatment in dogs six weeks of age and older.
- Bathing or shampooing the dog 2 or more hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against fleas or heartworm.
- The American Heartworm Society and most veterinarians recommend an annual heartworm test before prescribing a heartworm preventative for your dog or cat. Dogs with existing heartworm infections can have serious reactions after taking this.
- Revolution is sold as a prescription drug in a maximum of a 12-month supply per dog per year.
- To buy the same size for more than one dog, add what you need to the cart. You can split the amount among different dogs at the checkout!
- Wash your hands after use and wash off any product in contact with the skin immediately with soap and water.
What problems could my dog have with Revolution?
- Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the treatment site in some animals. These effects are temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.
- Rare side effects of Revolution that usually are not serious may include skin irritation or loss of hair at the site of application.
- Rare side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem may include depression lack of energy or weakness, stumbling or collapse, dilated pupils, excessive drooling, seizures or coma. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
How do you use Revolution?
- Apply to the skin as directed by your veterinarian.
- Firmly press the cap down to puncture the seal on the Revolution tube; a clicking sound will confirm that the cap has successfully punctured the seal. Remove the cap and check to ensure that the tip of the tube is open.
- To administer the product, part the hair on the back of the animal at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and squeeze the tube 3 or 4 times to empty its entire contents directly onto the skin in one spot until empty.
- Check the tube to ensure that it is empty. Do not massage the product into the skin.
- Due to alcohol content, do not apply to broken skin.
- Avoid contact between the product and fingers.
- Do not apply when the haircoat is wet.

Best Flea/Tick Product Out There
From UndisclosedComments about Revolution (selamectin) for DogsFor over 25 years I had been using Frontline for my cats. However, for the first time I had taken in a stray black cat who had very tight fur. The Frontline did not work nor would any other over-the-counter flea product until my Vet suggested Revolution. Midnight is more an outside can than an indoor/outdoor cat but he spends most of his days outside during the summer months and we all know what happens - he gets smothered by fleas. Revolution is a Godsend for any cat who loves the outdoors during the summer months. This stuff really kills the fleas, and for the 13 years we have had Midnight, we have never had a tick on him. We also have never had issues with worms with Midnight. If your cat is more of an outdoors cat and the other flea products just don't work, get your Vet onboard with Revolution and try it! You won't be disappointed. Also VetRx is the cheapest when it comes to the price! These people rock when it comes to service and price. -
Better than Frontline
From UndisclosedComments about Revolution (selamectin) for DogsRevolution works much better than Frontline for my cats. Buy from VetRXDirect to save a lot of money compared to buying it from your Veterinarian. -
Easy to use and very effective!
From UndisclosedComments about Revolution (selamectin) for DogsI've been using this product for several years to treat my cat for fleas. Apply it monthly to the cat's neck and don't worry for 30 days about those irritating pests. The price is reasonable, and less expensive this way than buying it directly from the vet. -

My dog is normally 36 #,she is now 5 weeks pregnant and 40 #. Which dose box should I order? Got vet approval today. Do ya just call my vet??
-
According to Plumb's Veterinary Handbook, Revolution appears to be safe to use in pregnant or lactating dogs. Revolution is indicated for prevention of heartworm disease and to prevent and control flea infestations. Zoetis, the producers of Revolution state that actual body weight should be used when determining the correct dosage for your dog. So for example if your pregnant dog is now 41 lbs, you should select the teal box of Revolution for dogs weighing between 40.1 - 85 lbs.

I put revolution on my cat 7 days early by mistake. Will it hurt her??
-
It is recommended to contact your veterinarian if you administer more than the prescribed dose. Safety studies have shown Revolution is safe in cats up to 10 times the recommended dose. If your cat is not experiencing any side effects such as hair loss, vomiting, salivation, or muscle tremors, it is most likely safe to resume your cat's normal dosing regimen.

-
Does this work on nasal mites? Is it safe for border collies??
-
Currently, there is no drug approved for the specific indication of nasal mites. However, the use of Revolution has been recommended and is indicated for dogs older than 6 weeks of age. There has been some evidence to suggest potential nerve tissue damage in Collie-type breeds due to a genetic defect when on Revolution. It has been observed that Collies should tolerate the medication at labeled doses, however its use should be used with caution. It would be to your best interest to contact our veterinarian to discuss the benefits of Revolution for your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

When I put the revolution on my cat tonight she tried to run, I held her but it ended up more to the side rather than the middle. So she was able to lick her hair a little. Should I be worried? She's fine so far?
-
Revolution contains selamectin, a topical parasiticide, that should be applied at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades to avoid ingestion by the pet. According to the manufacturer, accidental ingestion in cats may cause salivation and possible vomiting. If you have concerns about how much product your cat may have consumed we recommend contacting your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

-
how long does it take for revolution to kill fleas after application?
-
According to the package insert, laboratory studies found that greater than 98% of fleas were killed within the first 36 hours. The first application of this product will kill all fleas and eggs on your pet, but there is no information supporting when complete eradication will occur. The fleas on your pet, however, are only a small percentage of the fleas that could be infesting your home. Fleas like to be in dark places, such as carpet fibers, upholstery, bedding, and even behind baseboards. Some household cleaning tips to help get rid of fleas include: vacuum the carpets thoroughly (throw away the bag/empty out vacuum after each use as flea eggs can hatch within them); sweep and mop hardwood and linoleum flooring; wash your pet's bedding with hot water to kill the flea eggs and larva; and wash your pet's toys. Be sure to keep up this vigorous cleaning regimen until the flea problem is solved. You may consider treating your yard as well if fleas continue to be a persistent problem. Thank you, VetRxDirect
