What is Revolution for Dogs?
- Revolution is a prescription topical heartworm preventative and parasiticide medication for dogs.
- Revolution contains Selamectin to protect dogs against fleas, American dog ticks, heartworm, sarcoptic mange, and ear mites for one month.
Why is Revolution used for dogs?
- Revolution is a prescription, topical heartworm preventive.
- Revolution kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month, and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations.
- In dogs, Revolution also treats and controls ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and American dog tick infestations.
What else should I know about Revolution?
- Revolution is for topical treatment in dogs six weeks of age and older.
- Bathing or shampooing the dog 2 or more hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against fleas or heartworm.
- The American Heartworm Society and most veterinarians recommend an annual heartworm test before prescribing a heartworm preventative for your dog or cat. Dogs with existing heartworm infections can have serious reactions after taking this.
- Revolution is sold as a prescription drug in a maximum of a 12-month supply per dog per year.
- To buy the same size for more than one dog, add what you need to the cart. You can split the amount among different dogs at the checkout!
- Wash your hands after use and wash off any product in contact with the skin immediately with soap and water.
What problems could my dog have with Revolution?
- Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the treatment site in some animals. These effects are temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.
- Rare side effects of Revolution that usually are not serious may include skin irritation or loss of hair at the site of application.
- Rare side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem may include depression lack of energy or weakness, stumbling or collapse, dilated pupils, excessive drooling, seizures or coma. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
How do you use Revolution?
- Apply to the skin as directed by your veterinarian.
- Firmly press the cap down to puncture the seal on the Revolution tube; a clicking sound will confirm that the cap has successfully punctured the seal. Remove the cap and check to ensure that the tip of the tube is open.
- To administer the product, part the hair on the back of the animal at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and squeeze the tube 3 or 4 times to empty its entire contents directly onto the skin in one spot until empty.
- Check the tube to ensure that it is empty. Do not massage the product into the skin.
- Due to alcohol content, do not apply to broken skin.
- Avoid contact between the product and fingers.
- Do not apply when the haircoat is wet.

Best Big Boy Protection!
From Charleston, SC, USAComments about Revolution (selamectin) for DogsWe've been using this product on our 25lb Maine Coon cat for a year now. Moved to South Carolina from New Hampshire and were not aware of the fact fleas don't die during the winter months as they do in NH. We had real bad infestation while using another product. Since using an appropriate dose provided by the 15 - 22 lb Revolution, NO FLEAS!-

fantastic service
From UndisclosedComments about Revolution (selamectin) for DogsThe entire process of placing an order, verification of prescription, waiting and receiving med took no longer than 4 days. They also add a doggie treat. Needless to say, their prices are very good-lower than anyone else's and the service and speed of service at that are both efficient and highly satisfying. Revolution is a fantastic product. -

effective medicine!
From Arlington, VA, USAComments about Revolution (selamectin) for DogsMy cat's vet recommend this medicine to me afterhe had a bout of fleas. It's very effective as we haven't had any more flea situations, and he's protected against heartworm as well. The medicine is very easy to apply and he fact that it's a small volume of liquid makes for a more pleasant application. -

It is our preferred method for both heart worm, flea and tick prevention. Easy to use, well tolerated and nice that it requires only once a month application. Also, Vet RX is great about checking with our Vet if new RX is needed. -

Q & A

How long do I wait to give meds again??
-
The frequency of administering Revolution for cats depends on what it is being used for. For heartworm prevention and flea control, apply topically each month. If you're treating ear mites, apply topically once and then repeat application one month later if necessary. For hookworms and roundworms, apply topically once. If your cat has ancylostoma ceylanicum, apply topically once. For cheyletiellosis, apply topically once a month for a total of 3 treatments. For biting lice and notoedric mange, apply topically once. Please consult your veterinarian with any further questions and dosing directions specific to your pet.

My dog is normally 36 #,she is now 5 weeks pregnant and 40 #. Which dose box should I order? Got vet approval today. Do ya just call my vet??
-
According to Plumb's Veterinary Handbook, Revolution appears to be safe to use in pregnant or lactating dogs. Revolution is indicated for prevention of heartworm disease and to prevent and control flea infestations. Zoetis, the producers of Revolution state that actual body weight should be used when determining the correct dosage for your dog. So for example if your pregnant dog is now 41 lbs, you should select the teal box of Revolution for dogs weighing between 40.1 - 85 lbs.

When I put the revolution on my cat tonight she tried to run, I held her but it ended up more to the side rather than the middle. So she was able to lick her hair a little. Should I be worried? She's fine so far?
-
Revolution contains selamectin, a topical parasiticide, that should be applied at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades to avoid ingestion by the pet. According to the manufacturer, accidental ingestion in cats may cause salivation and possible vomiting. If you have concerns about how much product your cat may have consumed we recommend contacting your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

how long does it take for revolution to kill fleas after application?
-
According to the package insert, laboratory studies found that greater than 98% of fleas were killed within the first 36 hours. The first application of this product will kill all fleas and eggs on your pet, but there is no information supporting when complete eradication will occur. The fleas on your pet, however, are only a small percentage of the fleas that could be infesting your home. Fleas like to be in dark places, such as carpet fibers, upholstery, bedding, and even behind baseboards. Some household cleaning tips to help get rid of fleas include: vacuum the carpets thoroughly (throw away the bag/empty out vacuum after each use as flea eggs can hatch within them); sweep and mop hardwood and linoleum flooring; wash your pet's bedding with hot water to kill the flea eggs and larva; and wash your pet's toys. Be sure to keep up this vigorous cleaning regimen until the flea problem is solved. You may consider treating your yard as well if fleas continue to be a persistent problem. Thank you, VetRxDirect
