What is Revolution for Cats?
- Revolution is a prescription topical heartworm preventative and parasiticide medication for cats.
- Revolution contains Selamectin to protect cats against fleas, heartworm, ear mites, roundworms, and hookworms for one month.
Why is Revolution used for cats?
- Revolution is a prescription, topical heartworm preventive.
- Revolution kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month, and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations.
- In cats, Revolution also treats and controls ear mites, as well as intestinal roundworm and hookworm infections.
What else should I know about Revolution?
- Revolution is for topical treatment in cats eight weeks of age and older.
- Bathing or shampooing the cat 2 hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against fleas.
- Bathing or shampooing the cat 24 hours after treatment will not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution against heartworm.
- The American Heartworm Society and most veterinarians recommend an annual heartworm test before prescribing a heartworm preventative for your cat.
- Revolution is sold as a prescription drug in a maximum of a 12-month supply per cat per year.
- To buy the same size for more than one cat, add what you need to the cart. You can split the amount among different cats at the checkout!
- Wash your hands after use and wash off any product in contact with the skin immediately with soap and water.
What problems could my cat have with Revolution?
- Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the treatment site in some animals. These effects are temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.
- Rare side effects of Revolution that usually are not serious may include skin irritation or loss of hair at the site of application.
- Rare side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem may include depression lack of energy or weakness, stumbling or collapse, dilated pupils, excessive drooling, seizures or coma. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
How do you use Revolution?
- Apply to the skin as directed by your veterinarian.
- Firmly press the cap down to puncture the seal on the Revolution tube; a clicking sound will confirm that the cap has successfully punctured the seal. Remove the cap and check to ensure that the tip of the tube is open.
- To administer the product, part the hair on the back of the animal at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and squeeze the tube 3 or 4 times to empty its entire contents directly onto the skin in one spot until empty.
- Check the tube to ensure that it is empty. Do not massage the product into the skin.
- Due to alcohol content, do not apply to broken skin.
- Avoid contact between the product and fingers.
- Do not apply when the haircoat is wet.

All in one!
From North Carolina, USAComments about Revolution (selamectin) for CatsI love the fact that not only does Revolution work at flea and tick prevention, but heartworm prevention as well.. Easy to apply on both of my labs. Frontline used to leave a greasy, dirty-looking streak on my chocolates back for a week. And my black lab is allergic to beef, so no more using HeartGuard for her, since it's beef based.-

Hopeful!
From Twin CitiesComments about Revolution (selamectin) for CatsI bought this for my 10 year old Golden Retreiver Max as an alternative to oral heart worm medication. I'm in the process of trying a hypoallergenic dog food as opposed to an antibiotic maintenance regimen. So as not to throw off the effectiveness of the food, he can't have oral heartworm medication because of the added beef flavoring. I'm a little skeptical. -Will report back in few months! -

I bought this for my dog over the summer when she was had...
From Boston, MA, USAComments about Revolution (selamectin) for CatsI bought this for my dog over the summer when she was had horrible allergies, and apparently fleas. I was going crazy because she was going crazy and she was not herself for months. After months and months of steroids, and allergy testing, I bought this med and within 48 she was miraculously healed and back to her old self. I was told this is can effectively treat scabies and I was out of options. I swear by this med! And you dont have to give a monthly heart worm pill! -
It worked after 6 months of trying Frontline
From Valdez, AK, USAComments about Revolution (selamectin) for CatsI put it on my dog. It absorbed into his skin, no oily mess on his fur. No more fleas. -
Stress free summers!

My dog is normally 36 #,she is now 5 weeks pregnant and 40 #. Which dose box should I order? Got vet approval today. Do ya just call my vet??
-
According to Plumb's Veterinary Handbook, Revolution appears to be safe to use in pregnant or lactating dogs. Revolution is indicated for prevention of heartworm disease and to prevent and control flea infestations. Zoetis, the producers of Revolution state that actual body weight should be used when determining the correct dosage for your dog. So for example if your pregnant dog is now 41 lbs, you should select the teal box of Revolution for dogs weighing between 40.1 - 85 lbs.

I have a 2.3 pound teacup yorkie she is about 7yrs old. I have used revolution before. our vet use to give us some samples but cant get anymore. I don't remember which one we used. What strength? I saw for puppies under 5lbs. but she isn't a puppy. Which one would I need??
-
The dose for Revolution is based on the weight of the pet, rather than their age. Dogs up to 5 pounds will get the 15 mg of selamectin per tube dose. Talk with your veterinarian to determine if Revolution is the appropriate treatment for your pet.

Does this work on nasal mites? Is it safe for border collies??
-
Currently, there is no drug approved for the specific indication of nasal mites. However, the use of Revolution has been recommended and is indicated for dogs older than 6 weeks of age. There has been some evidence to suggest potential nerve tissue damage in Collie-type breeds due to a genetic defect when on Revolution. It has been observed that Collies should tolerate the medication at labeled doses, however its use should be used with caution. It would be to your best interest to contact our veterinarian to discuss the benefits of Revolution for your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

When I put the revolution on my cat tonight she tried to run, I held her but it ended up more to the side rather than the middle. So she was able to lick her hair a little. Should I be worried? She's fine so far?
-
Revolution contains selamectin, a topical parasiticide, that should be applied at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades to avoid ingestion by the pet. According to the manufacturer, accidental ingestion in cats may cause salivation and possible vomiting. If you have concerns about how much product your cat may have consumed we recommend contacting your veterinarian. Thank you, VetRxDirect

how long does it take for revolution to kill fleas after application?
-
According to the package insert, laboratory studies found that greater than 98% of fleas were killed within the first 36 hours. The first application of this product will kill all fleas and eggs on your pet, but there is no information supporting when complete eradication will occur. The fleas on your pet, however, are only a small percentage of the fleas that could be infesting your home. Fleas like to be in dark places, such as carpet fibers, upholstery, bedding, and even behind baseboards. Some household cleaning tips to help get rid of fleas include: vacuum the carpets thoroughly (throw away the bag/empty out vacuum after each use as flea eggs can hatch within them); sweep and mop hardwood and linoleum flooring; wash your pet's bedding with hot water to kill the flea eggs and larva; and wash your pet's toys. Be sure to keep up this vigorous cleaning regimen until the flea problem is solved. You may consider treating your yard as well if fleas continue to be a persistent problem. Thank you, VetRxDirect
