Pro-Pectalin Antidiarrheal Gel and Tablets for Dogs and Cats
What is Pro-Pectalin?
Pro-Pectalin is a product that blends pectin, kaolin, and enterococcus faecium together into one easy to dose gel or tablet. Kaolin is a natural aluminum silicate, pectin is a carbohydrate derived from citrus fruits and apples, and enterococcus faecium is a bacteria. The blend of these three ingredients can help with the symptoms of diarrhea by protecting the lining of the gastrointestinal tract, adsorbing fluids in the GI tract, and by providing healthy bacterial flora to the GI tract.
What is important to know about Pro-Pectalin?
Pro-Pectalin shouldn’t be relied on to control severe diarrhea, and should not replace the fluid and electrolyte monitoring of a veterinarian. Pro-Pectalin may also cause some slight constipation if used at high doses for long periods of time. It is important to follow instructions from your pet's veterinarian on how to use this product. This product may also affect the absorption of some medications, so it would be best to contact your pharmacist at VetRxDirect to make sure it won’t affect your pet’s other medications. If your pet develops a lack of energy, a high fever, or if their diarrhea does not improve, contact your pet's veterinarian as soon as possible.

Pro-Pectalin good for dogs with loose poops
From undisclosedComments about Pro-PectalinOur pup had very bad loose stools. Part of vet's treatment plan was Pro-Pectalin tabs for 7 days. They helped firm up her stool so I bought them online to avoid the ridiculous markup charged by the vet, since it looks like she'll need digestive calming for the foreseeable future. She puts anything organic in her mouth and already had Giardia. Since she's been on 2 tabs twice daily (recommended dose is up to 6 tabs), we see a consistency that is, well, pick-up-able. She loves the tabs (they smell good) and gobbles them whole so we end up cutting them into bits with a sharp knife because they are practically impossible to break along the line of the tab. We put the pieces (and the resulting dust) into her meals. -

Does this medicine ca use sleepiness in puppies?
-
Pro-Pectalin is a nutritional supplement labeled to support intestinal health that contains probiotics, kaolin, and pectin. Because this is an over the counter supplement, there are no labeled side effects. The manufacturer states that if your animal’s condition worsens or does not improve, stop product administration and consult your veterinarian.

I have a Husky/Shepherd Mix (she's a rescue) so I'm not 100% sure of what breed she is... She's approximately 60 lbs; and I was wondering how much I should give to her daily. Also I was wondering if a prescription is needed to purchase??
-
For the Pro-Pectalin tablets, according to the manufacturer, you should give one tablet per 20 lbs of body weight every 8 hours. For your husky, this would be three tablets by mouth every 8 hours. The manufacturer says that the tablets can be given whole or crumbled and given with food at meal time. For the Pro-Pectalin gel or paste, the manufacturer recommends giving 8 mL (or cc) every 8 hours to dogs 61 pounds and over, or giving 5 mL every 8 hours to dogs 31-60 pounds. Please consult with your veterinarian prior to administering Pro-Pectalin. Your veterinarian may choose to recommend a higher or lower dose, or even a different medication or supplement.. A prescription is not required to purchase Pro-Pectalin..

The dosage for a cat is 1cc. Our cat accidentally got a 2cc dose. Will the overdose harm him? He has constant diarrhea. Should I skip the next does since he got a double dose??
-
I believe I had to order this two years ago when my cat was vomitting and showing some loose stool. Is this a chalky white substance? Will see my vet tomorrow and she will tell me what to order, but I wanted to be certain this was the product I ordered earlier.?
-
Pro-Pectalin is in the form of an oral gel (that may have a chalky consistency). This product is intended to treat loose stool.

How long should it be given before one would say that the diarrhea has not improved? My cat's vet prescribed it last Monday after my cat had already been having diarrhea for 5 days. My cat is still having diarrhea and has been on the propectalin, tylan powder, kp-sol, and diphenoxylate for a week. Prior to that he had been only taking the tylan powder and kp-sol, but for 5 days already. All meds prescribed by vet.?
-
Its is recommended to consult your veterinarian if your cat's condition does not improve despite appropriate use of this medication, particularly if the diarrhea persists for longer than 48 hours after starting treatment. Please talk with your pet's veterinarian about your cat's persistent symptoms and follow their recommendations.
