What is Phos-Bind by Rx Vitamins for Cats and Dogs?
- Phos-Bind is a dietary supplement of aluminum hydroxide that supports normal function and health of the kidneys in cats and dogs.
Why is Phos-Bind given to cats and dogs?
- Phos-Bind contains aluminum hydroxide that binds to dietary phosphorus in the bowel to reduce absorption of phosphorus in the body.
- Phos-Bind helps reduce serum levels of phosphorus and may help better manage chronic renal disease.
What else should I know about Phos-Bind?
- Phos-Bind is a tasteless, odorless, finely granulated powder.
- Highly palatable when blended with your cats or dogs meals.
- Aluminum toxicity has not been found to be a concern in cats and dogs.
- 35 gram powder comes with 1 scoop (1/8 tsp). 35 gram powder contains 90 scoops.
- 200 gram powder comes with 1 scoop (1/4 tsp). 200 gram powder contains 200 scoops.
What problems could my cat or dog have with Phos-Bind?
- It is recommended to consult with your veterinarian before using a nutritional supplement for your cat or dog.
How do you use Phos-Bind?
- Use as directed by your veterinarian.
- Manufacturer suggests giving 100 mg/kg by mouth once daily with meals. Dosage should be adjusted based on serial serum phosphorus determinations every 2 to 4 weeks or as indicated by your veterinarian.
- Manufacturer administration techniques: Aluminum hydroxide powder can be easily mixed with canned or fresh food. For dry food, place the kibbles in a plastic baggie with the powder and shake the baggie to mix it, which allows the powder to adhere to the dry food. You can also slightly warm the dry food in the microwave (5-8 seconds) and then shake the powder with the food in a baggie. *DO NOT MICROWAVE PHOS-BIND* The outer fatty coating of dry food (called digest) softens with warming and will let the powder attach more readily.

- 200 gram powder: Active ingredient per 1 scoop (1/4 tsp): Aluminum Hydroxide 500 mg.

A minute dose in each meal for our kidney compromised feline. We use a total of 1/8 teaspoon per day.
This product does seem to cause some constipation in some pets.

Highly recommend Phos-Bind
From UndisclosedComments about Phos-Bind 200g PowderPhosBind was recommended to me from Tanya's CKD website to control high phosphorus levels for my cats who have chronic kidney disease (CKD). It's extremely finely ground and is mixed into their wet food and can be added to dry food. You can introduce it slowly over a few days working up to the full amount if needed. I have used it for five years with four CKD cats. -
Product arriving too late
From New York NYComments about Phos-BindI used you because I expected quick delivery but this did not arrive in time and my dog who needs this phosphate supplement is without. Please use another shipping service as usps is not reliable. -

Incomprehensibly vague dosage.
From OHComments about Phos-BindThe dosage directions are ridiculously vague and convoluted. If the scoop is 1/8 tsp, why can't you make a chart that says how many teaspoons for a 60 lb dog instead of 100 kg/mg? What does that even mean? I have no idea what to give my dog. -
Easy to feed
From UndisclosedComments about Phos-Bind 200g PowderStarted my kitty with CKD on this. Tasteless powder that is easy to mix with food and feed -

Actually Tasteless
From UndisclosedComments about Phos-Bind 35g PowderMy Magneto was born with small kidneys so the doctor recommended this to help reduce the amount of phosphate build up. I was worried he would turn his nose at it because of the taste but I've mixed it with wet food and he gobbles it right up. I've even dusted it on dry food in a pinch and he didn't mind.-

The dosing for the Phos-Bind is 100mg/kg daily. There is a measuring spoon that comes in the bottle as well. Thank you, VetRxDirect
