Orbax is a brand name medication containing orbifloxacin. It is available in tablets and in an oral suspension/liquid. Orbax is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and is used for a wide variety of infections in cats and dogs.
Orbax is generally well tolerated at most doses but higher doses can cause loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Orbax interacts with antacids, sucralfate, other antibiotics, cyclosporine, and other drugs. Contact your pet's veterinarian or VetRxDirect pharmacist about possible drug interactions with Orbax. Shake the suspension well before each use. Because Orbax is a prescription medication, your pet's veterinarian will decide what strength is appropriate for your pet.
Resistance is a major concern when giving antibiotics. Resistance occurs when bacteria survive and mutate and are then able to survive even after antibiotics are given. To help avoid any resistance, it is important to give antibiotics as they are prescribed for as long as they are prescribed even if your pet is looking and feeling better.
