I have a Basset Hound that weighs in at 70 lbs and he has a pill that we have to have made @ 211 mg per pill. His triglycerides where @ 2800 with no underlying issues. I guess my big thing here is that you see that the need for a smaller lower dosage pill would be way more user friendly so why don't you look to have lower doseage pills so it is not such a inconvenance for the people that HAVE to give this drug???

Gemfibrozil is a human-labeled generic medication that may be prescribed for extra-label use by a veterinarian to treat high levels of lipids in the blood. At this time, there are no vet-labeled Gemfibrozil medications. Currently, Gemfibrozil is only manufactured for humans in a standard 600mg dose, therefore the only strength available to purchase in our pharmacy. At this time, VetrxDirect does not offer a compounded option for Gemfibrozil. We apologize for any inconvenience.

My 20 pound dog has been prescribed lopid 300 mg. The gig is to give 1/4 tab or 75mg once a day. How would I do this??
-
First, a pill splitter could be utilized to cut the tablet in half. Then, each section needs to be split in half again, yielding 4 equal tablet pieces from the one 300mg tablet. Speak to your veterinarian as they could should show you how to properly split the tablet into the recommended dose.

My vet is prescribing 150mg. Does that mean i buy this 600 and cut it into four? Is this tablet designed where it can be cut into 4 pieces??
-
Gemfibrozil is only available in 600mg strength tablets, and most of them are scored down the middle so it can be readily split in half, but you would need to split each half again into two. Please consult your veterinarian regarding the best way to cut these tablets, a pill cutter or splitter can be a helpful tool you can use.
