What is Claro Otic Solution for Dogs?
- Claro is a prescription ear solution for dogs that treats otitis externa, outer ear infection, caused by yeast and bacteria.
- Claro contains florfenicol, terbinafine, and mometasone - an antibacterial, an antifungal, and an anti-inflammatory steroid.
- Claro works by killing infection causing bacteria and yeast in the ear and reducing swelling, and redness associated with ear infections.
Why do cats and dogs use Claro?
- If your dog has been diagnosed with otitis externa or an ear condition, your veterinarian may prescribe an ear solution such as Claro.
- Claro kills the yeast and bacteria causing the infection and has a steroid to treat swelling and redness.
What else should I know about Claro?
- One dose of Claro is designed to last 30 days.
What problems could my dog or cat have with Claro?
- Do not use in dogs with damaged ear drums.
- This should be used with caution in dogs with kidney problems.
How do you use Claro?
- Shake well before use.
- Your veterinarian may ask you to bring the Claro in to the office so that the dose can be given in the office.
- Prevent your dog and other animals from licking or grooming the treated ears for at least 20 to 30 minutes after application.

Very effective.
Have had issues with my German Shephards ears since he was very young. Have tried everything. My dog doesn't like anyone or anything to touch his ears. All the other daily treatments were impossible as it is a wrestling match with this 120lb dog every day. I took my dog to the vet one way in regards to his ears. I was there to tell the vet it was time to do the procedure we did a few years earlier. Basically, anesthetize him and have the vet clean his ears out and then put the same stuff in he did last time. He told me we don't have to do that any more. We got 4 people in the room, we got the dog held down and we got the Claro in both ears. The results were amazing. Highly recommend.

Horrible experience for my dog and me
Our vet applied this to our terrier mix, Cooper, resulting in 30 days of painful whining and oozing ears. It created a sticky discharge which required delicate cleaning of the ear flap EVERY DAY FOR A MONTH. The waxy discharge was nearly impossible to remove from his fur. It created extreme discomfort and he was constantly trying to shake and claw this junk out of his ear. What a nightmare!

Normal dog now has trouble eating, drinking, and walking.
From Moscow IdahoComments about Claro Otic SolutionMy vet suggested this product for my dog's waxy ears. Afterward, her tongue stopped working correctly, making it difficult for her to eat and drink. She also become ataxic, having difficulty standing or walking. It has basically turned her into an invalid and robbed her of quality of life. I have to feed her by hand, and have been hydrating her with saline from the vet given at home sub-q. We had the vet try to flush Claro from her ears, as best as could be done. One week after application, Lucy is walking again, but wobbly. I wish so much we had never used this.

How long do I have to wait after Claro application for me to fuse an ear flush solution. My dog still have debris in her ears 1 week after application and want to clean them out.?

The manufacturer of Claro Otic Solution states that it should be administered by veterinary personnel, and that one dose should have a duration of effect of 30 days. The external ear canal should be cleaned and dried first before administration and integrity of tympanic membrane verified as well. I have two 9 month old puppies and this was applied to my males ears on 8/13. My female likes to lick his ears. Will this have an effect on my female puppy? The vet tech said it could make her go blind but I see nothing in the literature about this possibility.?

Claro Otic Solution is for external use only, therefore it should not be orally ingested. However, the manufacturer reports no formal complaints or reports of toxicity when accidentally ingested. The concern is that saliva from another dog is coming in contact with an already infected ear. This could hinder healing or expose the infection to new organisms. The manufacturer recommends bathing the dog below the neck only after administration using caution not to allow water into the ears. Additionally, it is not recommended to allow the dog to swim 30 days following administration.

Claro otic drops are ear drops that come packaged as single doses. Each small tube is one dose, and the entire quantity and is placed into the dog's ear. The medication then lasts around 30 days, targeting and killing bacteria and yeast in the ear.

Although I saw there were no clinically relevant instances of an adverse effect on hearing, were there ANY cases where hearing loss occurred following multiples dosages? My dog has been treated 3x with Claro in the last 6 months and I am trying to figure out if her sudden deafness is due to the Claro or because the vet tech broke off the ear squab in her ear (asking because not sure if the squab breaking off could've caused damage plus it seems to be both her ears having the problem).?

The integrity of the tympanic membrane should be confirmed before administering the product. Reevaluate the dog if hearing loss or signs of vestibular dysfunction are observed during treatment. In the study that allowed the Claro Otic solution to be FDA approved, one dog had thickening of the tympanic membrane and one dog had an aural hematoma. Nothing was reported in terms of hearing loss. It is also important to note that these adverse effects were not clinically relevant. It is recommended to contact your veterinarian with any additional questions or concerns.

The dog's pain is likely due to the inflammation from the yeast and bacteria. The pain should begin to subside after the initial application. Once the drugs begin to rid the dog's ear of the infection, the pain should begin to subside. Additionally, the steroid in the drug preparation should start working to decrease inflammation after initial application.
