If your dog develops high pressure in her eye, it's probably due to glaucoma, a serious disease that could rob your dog of her sight. Your veterinarian may prescript Azopt Eye Drops to lower the pressure in your dog's eye and reduce symptoms of the disease.
In healthy canine eyes, the aqueous humor, the fluid in the eyes, drains from the eye through a tiny perforated channel. But if your dog has glaucoma, that channel may become blocked and the aqueous humor then builds up in the eye creating pressure that can damage the optic nerve over time. Lowering pressure in the eye is key to reducing the symptoms of glaucoma and protecting your dog’s sight. Azopt Eye Drops are effective in humans with glaucoma and veterinarians will often prescribe these drops for dogs. Prescription Azopt is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Its active ingredient is brinzolamide, a chemical that lowers fluid levels in the eye by blocking the enzyme carbonic anhydrase which is critical to producing the aqueous humor. Apply these drops as directed by your veterinarian.
