What is Universal Medicated Shampoo for Dogs and Cats?
Universal Medicated shampoo is deep cleansing shampoo, containing the active ingredients chloroxylenol (2%), salicylic acid (2%), and sodium thiosulfate (2%). Chloroxylenol is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial that treats bacterial, fungal, and yeast infections of skin and nails. Sodium thiosulfate is an additional antifungal agent that decreases the growth of fungus on skin. In addition to providing keratolytic (peeling) properties, salicylic acid can be used with sodium thiosulfate to increase the absorption of sodium thiosulfate into the skin. Universal Medicated Shampoo may be used as an adjunctive therapy for many common dermatological conditions, will remove scales and crusts on the skin, and acts as a deodorizer.
How should Universal Medicated Shampoo be used?
After thoroughly wetting the animal’s coat with tepid water, massage small amounts of shampoo into the coat while continuously adding water to better disperse the shampoo. Continued until a generous lather is created. Rinse well and repeat procedure. Shampoo may be applied weekly or as often as recommended by your pet’s veterinarian.
