Sorry we waited so long to try it
We waited several years to try this product but since ticks are so prevalent in our area we decided to give it a go. A few days after our 17 lb. terrier mix received her first dose I found a deflated, dead tick clinging to her. With two indoor only cats, it's nice to not have the added worry of the dog bringing fleas and ticks into the house. Reduced review by one star because the product is so expensive. It almost was a deterrent for us as it would be for many I assume.

If a dog had an adverse reaction to topically applied moxidectin and imidocloprid, is it safe to use an oral heartworm preventative with Moxidectin??

If the adverse reaction was associated with the moxidectin component, the oral form of moxidectin has similar absorption of the medication to provide the extended protection, increasing the likelihood of a similar adverse reaction occurring. Speak with your veterinarian to determine the severity of the previous adverse reaction, the risks associated with treatment, and other treatment options to prevent parasites.

For heartworm prevention, Simaprica Trio should be administered at monthly intervals year round or at least within one month of the animal’s first seasonal exposure to mosquitoes and continuing until at least 1 month after the dog’s last seasonal exposure. For Flea Treatment and Prevention and Tick Control: Simparica Trio should be administered year-round at monthly intervals or started at least one month before fleas and ticks become active. For the treatment of roundworm and adult hookworm infections: Simparica Trio should be administered once as a single dose. Monthly use will control any subsequent infections. Please consult with your veterinarian with any further questions regarding this medication for your dog.

According to an Ivermectin-sensitive Collie Safety Study, Simparica Trio was administered orally once at 1, 3 and 5X the maximum labeled dose to Collies that had been pre screened for avermectin sensitivity. Dogs in the control group received placebo. Clinical signs (ataxia, muscle fasciculations, mydriasis) associated with avermectin sensitivity were observed in the group administered 5X the maximum labeled dose. All dogs were completely recovered by the third day of the study. Speak to your veterinarian about your concerns to determine if Simparica Trio is the appropriate choice for your collie.
