Quellin is the very first FDA-approved soft chew containing the prescription medication, Carprofen. Quellin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and works to decrease inflammation and pain. Quellin is approved only for dogs and is often used for arthritis and for postoperative pain. Quellin provides carprofen in a savory meat flavored chew, eliminating the need to hide pills or disguise them. Most dogs readily accept Quellin as a treat. Quellin does not contain any animal protein.
What else should you know about Quellin?
Quellin’s active ingredient, carprofen, is the same medication as Rimadyl, Norocarp, Carprieve, Vetprofen, Novox and Putney’s Carprofen. Please ensure your dog is not currently taking any of the other forms of carprofen before starting Quellin. Carprofen can cause liver, kidney, and stomach damage, so be sure to consult your veterinarian with any concerns you have during treatment. Quellin may cause mild stomach upset, but a veterinarian should be consulted if you see bloody stools or vomit while your dog is taking Quellin. Carprofen interacts with other medications, so be sure to inform your veterinarian and VetRxDirect pharmacist of all the medications (OTC and Rx) your dog is taking.
