What is Palladia?
Palladia is the brand name product containing toceranib, indicated for the treatment of Patnaik grade II or III, recurrent, cutaneous mast cell tumors with or without regional lymph node involvement in dogs. Palladia is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, meaning it helps stunt the growth and spreading of the tumor. It can also help cut off the blood supply to the tumor.
What dogs should not use Palladia?
Palladia should not be used in female breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. Its use should be cautioned in dogs under two years of age and those weighing less than 11 pounds. Palladia should be discontinued at least three days before surgery, if possible .
What side effects are associated with Palladia?
The most common side effects of Palladia include diarrhea, decreased appetite, lameness, weight loss, and bloody stools. If your dog experiences severe diarrhea or bleeding you should contact the veterinarian immediately.
What drugs interact with Palladia?
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) interact with Palladia and should be used with caution. There are several other drugs that can affect the metabolism of Palladia including fluconazole, clarithromycin, and verapamil (just to name a few). It is important to inform your pet's veterinarian of all medications, including over the counter drugs, before starting Palladia. You should also take care to consult your pet's veterinarian or VetRxDirect pharmacist before giving any new medications to your dog.
What do you need to know before starting your dog on Palladia?
After handling Palladia tablets, you should always wash your hands immediately. Never crush, break, or split the Palladia tablets. If there is a broken or moistened tablet in the bottle, handle all tablets left in the bottle with gloves on. Palladia can be found in your dog’s stools, vomit, and urine, so you should always wear gloves while cleaning up after your dog while on Palladia. Keep Palladia out of the reach of your pets and children. If you are pregnant, nursing, or may become pregnant, take extra caution when handling Palladia tablets if you must administer them. It is important to keep up with all veterinary and lab appointments while your dog is on Palladia. Feel free to contact us at VetRxDirect with any further questions regarding Palladia.
