Great Appetite Stimulant
From UndisclosedComments about Mirataz (mirtazapine) Transdermal OintmentReally helps with my older kitty's appetite. It's less likely to cause the unwanted side effect of excessive stimulation/meowing than the oral type of this med. Also, I'm able to give a smaller dose easily. -
Great to stimulate appetite in a sick kitty.
From UndisclosedComments about Mirataz (mirtazapine) Transdermal OintmentGreat product, easy to use - only problem is it makes your pet annoyingly ask for food at all hours! (Cat comes and bats you in the face with her paw at 5 in the morning ....) But that's not the fault of the product! :) -

Affectionate and hungry
From UndisclosedComments about Mirataz (mirtazapine) Transdermal OintmentI've had my cat on it for half a year and have experienced consistent results. It is easy to apply. I just put a little on a my finger cot and apply it to the inner ear. He hardly makes a fuss. In fact he purrs the whole time! Easy peasy. It starts to work in a couple hours. He also gets super affectionate. -
Yes I would buy this product again.
From UndisclosedComments about Mirataz (mirtazapine) Transdermal OintmentThis stuff is amazing, within an hour or two, our cat is searching for anything and everything to eat. It is also very easy to administer to the inside of the ear but you must wear a rubber glove since it is a transdermal medication. Have never had a medication that worked better and was so easy to apply. -
Excellent product for appetite stimulation. Will buy again.
From UndisclosedComments about Mirataz (mirtazapine) Transdermal OintmentThis product is very effective for increasing our cat's appetite without side effects such as hyperactivity. He has gained about a pound in 4 months, which is beyond what we were hoping for! -

I gave my cat 2 doses still not eating how long does it take to work ??
-
According to Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook, mirtazapine should help your animal feel better within 1 to 2 days. Your animal’s clinical signs should improve after that time. The effects of this medication are short-lived, meaning they will stop working within 24 hours. Please consult your veterinarian with any further questions or concerns regarding this medication and your cat.

why do they say not to have contact with the animal 2 hours after application??
-
According to the manufacturer’s labeled warning: After application, care should be taken that people or other animals in the household do not come in contact with the treated cat for 2 hours because mirtazapine can be absorbed transdermally and orally.

My elderly cat stopped eating and we now find it is because of a large tumor on or near her liver. She is very jaundiced and very emaciated. She seems to like mirataz but still eats almost nothing. I wonder if it is safe to keep giving it to her. It seems to make her feel good but she doesn't always seem to feel good after eating the tiny bit she eats. She is not in any condition for the tumor to be treated. Thank you.?

I began the Mirataz 4 days ago, but I forgot which ear I last used. I wasn't paying attention and didn't write it down. What if I apply to same pinna by accident??
-
The manufacturer recommends alternating the daily application of Mirataz between the left and right inner pinna of the ears. There is currently no information regarding repeat applications of this medication to the same ear. The manufacturer states that if a dose is missed, apply Mirataz the following day and resume daily dosing. Please speak to your veterinarian with any further questions or concerns regarding this medication and your cat.

Does the transdermal Mirataz doseage differ in cats with kidney disease??
-
According to Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook, animals with kidney impairment or kidney failure may require lower doses of mirtazapine and should be closely monitored while receiving mirtazapine. Your veterinarian is the best source of information for your cat. Please consult with your veterinarian with any further questions or concerns regarding the dosage of this medication.

Can it be put on any area on the cat with little to no hair?? Or can it only go in the side of the ear, and if so why???
-
The manufacturer of Mirataz conducted an effectiveness study in cats where each 1.5 inch ribbon of ointment was applied topically to the inner pinna of the cat’s ear. There were no other application sites tried or used in the effectiveness trial. Topical application to the inner ear as described in the prescribing information for Mirataz will be the recommended way to achieve the positive results of the study in your cat. Your veterinarian may choose to prescribe and utilize Mirataz in a manner that is inconsistent with manufacturer directions if they feel it is a better option for your cat. Speak to your veterinarian to determine if they would recommend a different application site for Mirataz Transdermal Ointment.

Too expensive to throw a almost unused tube away 30 days from opening. Can I continue to use it after 30 days??
-
According to the manufacturer, the multi-use tube must be discarded within 30 days of the first use. This is because there is no data on the stability of the drug following 30 days once the tube is opened. The expiry date is printed on the flap of carton and on the crimped portion of the tube. Shelf life (time from manufacture date to expiry date) is 30 months for an unopened tube. Please consult your veterinarian for medication suggestions if you have concerns about the cost of this treatment for your cat.
