MethylPREDNISolone,an anti-inflammatory medication, is a glucocorticoid (also known as steroid) that can be used for many different conditions. It is a generic product for Medrol, Depo-Medrol, Solu-Medrol, and Methapred. The three major uses are for replacement of glucocorticoid activity in deficient animals, to decrease inflammation, and to suppress the immune system. - Dogs and cats with suspected viral or fungal infections, tuberculosis, peptic ulcers, acute psychosis, corneal ulcers and Cushing's disease should not take MethylPREDNISolone.
- Dogs and cats with a history of vein inflammation, diabetes, low bone density, psychotic dogs, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and kidney damage can take MethylPREDNISolone but it should be very controlled and carefully monitored.
- When used at lower doses and for short periods of time, side effects are not likely to occur from MethylPREDNISolone use. When it is used for long periods of time, methylprednisolone can cause increased thirst leading to increased urination, increased appetite leading to weight gain, dulling or drying hair coat, upset stomach, worsening diabetes, and many more.
