I will continue to buy this product.
My dog injured her legs and hips some time ago. She is a big dog, about 143 pounds.Started using Cosequin DS two months ago with an initial dosage of 4 tablets a day for 6 weeks now on 3 tablets per day. Her condition has significantly improved. Hard to tell if it is because of the reduced activity or the Cosequin. Probably a little bit of both. I question the pain relief value of MSM, doesn't seem to have much effect. I will coninue to give her Cosequin for the rest of her life. For pain, we are looking to our vet for a carprofen. If your dog has damaged hips or knees this product will not fix it but it can help ease their symptoms.

From UndisclosedComments about Cosequin Sprinkle Capsules for Small AnimalsMy dog loves the Cosequin soft chews. She has been taking Cosequin for about 6 months. It seems to be helping. I will be buying this product again!
From UndisclosedComments about Cosequin Sprinkle Capsules for Small AnimalsI realize the purchase price is daunting. However, this cost goes down once your pet has been on the product for a month as they require fewer "chews" per day. The improvement in our two senior citizens has been dramatic. As a side benefit, one dog's coat has improved considerably. -

If my dog currently doesn't have related issues & just want this purely for preventive & maintenance, do I still follow the initial dose and lessen the dose after 6 weeks? Or can I already start with the maintenance dose at the onset??
-
The initial loading dose for 4-6 weeks is to have glucosamine reach therapeutic levels. Starting at the maintenance dose may take longer to reach the therapeutic levels needed to provide clinical relief Before initiating or altering any supplement for your dog, you should contact your vet. They have the most up-to-date medical history of your dog and can provide the best recommendations for them. Please consult your veterinarian.

I have two large breed dogs (3 year old English Mastiff 210lbs and 4 year old Boerboel Mastiff 125lbs - back legs have knee deformities) The vet suggested Cosequin for both of our babies. What dose would I give these large breed dogs??
-
The manufacturer has specific recommendations including a loading dose period (4-6 weeks) and then maintenance doses. Their recommendations are listed below and are a general guide for administering the supplement to your dog, but your dog's veterinarian should make the ultimate decision on dosing. Loading Dose: 60+ lbs 3 chewables once daily Maintenance Dose: 60+ lbs 1-2 chewables once daily

My 14 lb poodle is currently taking Rimadyl for two weeks. Still limping. Would this be in addition or replacement for that medication? She is 7 years old. Thank you.?
-
Cosequin is a nutritional supplement that helps support joint health. It contains glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM. Rimadyl is a prescription medication that contains Carprofen, a non-steroidal pain and inflammation reliever. Because Cosequin is a supplement, and is not a replacement for a prescription medication like Rimadyl. It does not have any known drug interactions, but you should consult with your veterinarian before administering a new supplement.
