I will continue to buy this product.
My dog injured her legs and hips some time ago. She is a big dog, about 143 pounds.Started using Cosequin DS two months ago with an initial dosage of 4 tablets a day for 6 weeks now on 3 tablets per day. Her condition has significantly improved. Hard to tell if it is because of the reduced activity or the Cosequin. Probably a little bit of both. I question the pain relief value of MSM, doesn't seem to have much effect. I will coninue to give her Cosequin for the rest of her life. For pain, we are looking to our vet for a carprofen. If your dog has damaged hips or knees this product will not fix it but it can help ease their symptoms.

Q & A
-
if the dog taking the cosequin had received more then it should in 1 day what would happen??
-
Cosequin Maximum Strength is a joint supplement for dogs that contains glucosamine, chondroitin, and methylsulfonylmethane, which are all naturally occurring. The recommended doses range from ½ tablet every other day to 2 tablets daily depending on the weight of your dog. If your dog took more than the recommended daily dose for their weight class, monitor for signs such as nausea, vomiting, and lethargy. It is recommended to speak with your veterinarian to determine if further follow up is necessary.

If my dog currently doesn't have related issues & just want this purely for preventive & maintenance, do I still follow the initial dose and lessen the dose after 6 weeks? Or can I already start with the maintenance dose at the onset??
-
The initial loading dose for 4-6 weeks is to have glucosamine reach therapeutic levels. Starting at the maintenance dose may take longer to reach the therapeutic levels needed to provide clinical relief Before initiating or altering any supplement for your dog, you should contact your vet. They have the most up-to-date medical history of your dog and can provide the best recommendations for them. Please consult your veterinarian.

My dog is currently taking Dasuquin soft chews with MSM. How does the Cosequin DS Plus compare? Is it the same thing just different manuf. name??
-
Both products are soft chews which contain ingredients which are meant to support joint health. Cosequin Minis soft chews contain Per Chew Glucosamine Hydrochloride 260mg Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate 130mg Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 175mg Cosequin DS Plus Soft Chews contain Glucosamine Hydrochloride 600mg Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate 300mg Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 400mg Dasuquin soft chews for small and medium dogs contain Glucosamine Hydrochloride 600mg Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate 250mg Avocado/Soybean Unsaponifiables Powder 45mg Dasuquin soft chews for Large dogs contain Glucosamine Hydrochloride 900mg Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate 350mg Avocado/Soybean Unsaponifiables (ASU) Powder 90mg ASU powder contains a mixture of avocado and soybean oil. MSM is a major component of connective tissues such as cartilage, tendons and ligaments. Both of these are claimed to improve joint health. Each soft chew also contains its own inactive ingredients which may be a concern in a pet with allergies. The dosing of these chews is weight based. Please note that the initial and the maintenance dose are different. Please inform your veterinarian when your pet stops, starts or changes medication. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Are the soft chews really soft? I've purchased other products that have advertised as soft chews but turned out to be hard as a rock and hard for my 20 lb. dog to chew. It says he would take 1/2 daily loading and 1/2 every other day. Is that correct??
-
They do not seem to be rock hard and we have never had any complaints about them being hard for dogs to take. The recommended dose for a 20 pound dog would be 1 chew for the initial 4-6 week period and then 1 chew every other day for maintenance. Thank you, VetRxDirect
