What you should know about Cefpodoxime Proxetil:

  • Consult with your veterinarian before administering this medication and follow their specific instructions for use.
  • Read and follow the prescription label carefully for storage information, possible side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Give the exact amount prescribed and only as often as directed.
  • Do not skip doses or stop giving the medication without consulting your veterinarian.

Cefpodoxime Proxetil generally does not cause major side effects. It can cause diarrhea and vomiting. If your pet has severe diarrhea or vomiting, you should contact your pet's veterinarian. If your pet has ever had an allergic reaction to any cephalosporin antibiotic, you should not give cefpodoxime proxetil to them. It is important to finish the entire course of the antibiotic that your pet's veterinarian indicated, so your pet can have the best results.

Resistance is a major concern when giving antibiotics. Resistance occurs when bacteria survive and mutate and are then able to survive even after antibiotics are given. To help avoid any resistance, it is important to give antibiotics as they are prescribed for as long as they are prescribed even if your pet is looking and feeling better.
