Adequan Canine (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan) for Dogs

Adequan Canine is a prescription, injectable medication for dogs that controls the symptoms of non-infectious, degenerative arthritis or traumatic arthritis. The active ingredient in Adequan Canine, Polysulfated glycosaminoglycan, is a disease modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD) that works to inhibit the deterioration of joint cartilage. It may slow the progression of arthritis, help restore joint lubrication and mobility, and promote healthy cartilage. Adequan may relieve symptoms of arthritis in dogs which may include inflammation, swelling, pain, stiffness, and lameness. This medication is formulated as an intramuscular injection, and the dosage regimen is prescribed by your veterinarian.

What you should know about Adequan Canine:

  • Read and follow the prescription label carefully for storage information, possible side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Give the exact amount prescribed and only as often as directed.
  • Do not skip doses or stop giving the medication without consulting your veterinarian.
  • Adequately clean and disinfect the stopper prior to entry with a sterile needle and syringe.
  • Use only sterile needles, and use each needle only once.
  • The vial stopper may be punctured a maximum of 10 times.
  • Discard medication 28 days after opening a vial.

Storage Conditions: Store at 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F) excursions permitted to 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F) (See USP Controlled Room Temperature). Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures ≥ 40°C (104°F).
