What you know about Compounded Fludrocortisone Capsules:
Fludrocortisone capsules are compounded by VetRxDirect’s expert compounding staff. They are available in many dosage forms to tailor to your pet’s needs. The capsules need to be stored away from humidity, light, and heat. It is important to order your refills a few days ahead of time because the product needs to be made for your pet. Fludrocortisone capsules have an expiration date of 6 months after they are made, so pay close attention to expiration dates on your label. Quantities and charges ordered exceeding the beyond use date will be adjusted to hopefully prevent your pet’s medication from expiring before they are finished.

From undisclosedComments about Fludrocortisone (Compounded)Rx was filled promptly, but not confident that it's compounded correctly, as my dog's disease has regressed significantly. We're going back to the shots. -

Addison's
From Hebron,CTComments about Fludrocortisone (Compounded)My pit bull has to be on fludrocortispne due to his Addison's decease. You can't cure it but luckily can control by appropriate daily dose of this Rx. Have been a customer of VetRxDirect since day 1, no issues, great product value and customer service. Recommend -
Great product, great price
From undisclosedComments about Fludrocortisone (Compounded)My vet said sometimes compounded medicines are not as effective but these capsules have been great. One capsule twice daily is so much easier than three pills twice daily. I was able to get a 50 day supply of meds for the same price I paid for a 16 day supply at my local pharmacy. Ordering was easy and shipping was fast and free. No complaints here. -
Keeps Dani alive!
From undisclosedComments about Fludrocortisone (Compounded)Good and consistent. Cheapest around. -

I will continue to use VetRx.com for my dogs prescriptions.
From undisclosedComments about Fludrocortisone (Compounded)I absolutely love having my boys medicine compounded into 2 pills, rather than the 7 he was takeing daily! Although, I do hope to be able to get it in just 1 pill in the future... -
Simplistic!
From Minocqua, WisconsinComments about Fludrocortisone (Compounded)Every day, our lovely Yellow Lab, Kady, depends on Florinef to keep her hormones in check and to keep her alive. She came down with Addison Disease around 4yr. We use to get the pills from Canada and they dont compound, so we had to give 6 pills of .10 every am and pm. Now, thanks to VetRxDirect compounding her strength, we only give one .60 capsule in pure pumpkin each am and pm.
Q & A
-
We currently use Fludrocortisone Acetate (0.4 mg) compounded by a local pharmacy that is far too expensive. Is this the same as the "Acetate"??
-
Both the commercially produced tablets and the compounded capsules sold by VetRxDirect use the acetate salt form of Fludrocortisone.

I typically order Fludrocortisone 0.6 but my dogs dose has increased to 0.7. I do not see the option for 0.7 compounded on the website.?
-
One option for obtaining the 0.7mg dosage may be via combining two available strengths on our website. Please call us at 1-866-761-6578 for additional available strength information. Please contact your dog's veterinarian to check if this medication is appropriate for your dog and to obtain a prescription.

My dog has Addisons disease and takes an injection of Percorten v each month. Is this product the same as Percorten? Can it be used in lieu of Percorten? Do I have to have a prescription from the vet to have the compounded product??
-
A prescription is needed to compound this product. Fludrocortisone is not the same medication as Percorten-V. The active ingredient in Percorten-V is desoxycorticosterone pivalate. Fludrocortisone can be used as an alternative to Percorten-V for the treatment of Addison's Disease. Percorten-V is an injectable medication given approximately every 21-30 days while Fludrocortisone capsules must be given orally daily. It is more common to see an increase in the dose as time goes on with Fludrocortisone than with Percorten-V. It is best to discuss with your veterinarian what the best option is for your pet.

will these compouned capsuls work the exact same way as the fludrocortison that I now give my dog from a reg. pharmacy??
-
Lexi, Fludrocortisone acetate is a prescription mineralocorticoid used in the treatment of Addison’s disease (adrenocortical insufficiency) in a variety of small animals. The 0.1mg fludrocortisone acetate tablets available from VetRxDirect are a commercially available generic version of Florinef 0.1mg tablets. The 0.1mg fludrocortisone acetate tablets will be the same strength as what you can get from your regular pharmacy. VetRxDirect can also compound custom strengths of fludrocortisone capsules to meet the requirements of your animal. Contact your veterinarian to determine the best course of therapy for your animal. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Can you break in half so you can give half in the morning and half at night? The half life worries me that she will crash overnight.?
-
Tanya, We do not recommend splitting capsules, as it can be difficult to ensure even dosing. Fludrocortisone is available in a 0.3mg capsule, so that you would be able to give the prescribed dose in the morning and evening without needing to split a larger strength. Thank you, VetRxDirect
