Aerodawg Aerosol Chamber

The Aerodawg is a “must have” for anyone who has a dog suffering from chronic bronchitis. The Aerodawg Canine Aerosol Chamber, which works with most Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI), delivers inhaled medication deep into your dog’s lungs to help him breathe easier.

  •  Helps owners administer inhaled medication to dogs
  •  Flow-vu indicator takes the guesswork of dosing
  •  Easy to clean
  •  Comes with two sizes to fit any dog

To ease the symptoms of canine bronchitis, laryngeal paralysis, and tracheal collapse, some dogs must take special inhaled medications. The Aerodawg Canine Aerosol Chamber makes administering the medications easier by combining a special chamber and a contoured mask that work together with a “puffer” of a prescription medication from your pet's veterinarian. The mask fits snuggly over your dog’s mouth and nose and the convenient Flow-vu indicator moves with respiration so you can track the dosage your dog receives.

What you should know about Aerodawg Canine Aerosol Chamber:

  •  Talk to your dog's veterinarian before using this product.
  •  Follow dosing directions exactly - don’t give your dog more medication than directed and don’t skip doses.
  •  Read the label carefully on the MDI for information about storage, possible side effects, and drug interactions.

For additional information about Aerodawg Canine Aerosol Chamber, click the “More Information” and “Package Insert” tabs above.

AeroDawg Canine Aerosol Chamber usually ships same day with quick delivery if ordered from VetRxDirect by 3PM CST.

The AeroDawg Canine Aerosol Chamber (CAC) is designed to be used along with a Metered Dose Inhaler to deliver aerosol medication, such as Fluticasone (Flovent), to dogs with chronic bronchitis, collapsed tracheas, etc. Metered Dose Inhalers, used to treat human respiratory conditions, can be prescribed by your veterinarian and purchased from VetRxDirect. This device should be used only on the recommendation of your veterinarian. Consult with your veterinarian for advice and instructions.

  • The small AeroDawg is designed for dogs 20 lbs or less and includes a small mask and a medium mask to accommodate all breeds and sizes of dogs.
  • The large AeroDawg is designed for dogs over 20 lbs and includes a medium mask and a large mask to accommodate all breeds and sizes of dogs.

Consult your pet's veterinarian for advice and instructions.
Flow-Vu Indicator moves with the dog's respiration allowing coordination of the Metered Dose Inhaler actuation with inhalation, count breaths, and ensure a mask seal. Shatterproof, anti-static chamber ensures medication is delivered deep into the dog's lungs.
Easy to use and clean. Accommodates all breeds and sizes of dogs.
Side effects of other bronchitis treatments are minimized with this system.   Intended Use For use with a metered dose inhaler as prescribed by your pet's veterinarian.
Cautions
Use only under the direction of a veterinarian and read all instructions before use. Do not leave AeroDawg FAC unattended with children. Do not disassemble the product beyond what is recommended in the cleaning instructions or damage may result. The AeroDawg is a medical device.  To ensure proper performance it should be cleaned according to the instructions.  It should not be cleaned in a dishwasher. If unsure how to use this product, talk to your pet's veterinarian.
Notes
Read and follow the instructions provided with your MDI. This product contains no latex. If you have questions about the performance or usability of this product, please contact your pet's veterinarian.

  • Q:

I have a small dog, 5lb chihuahua. Her snout sticks out and we have the aero cat model. We've been having a hard time with it and I wondered if we switched to a small dog attachment if it would fit the chamber we already have.
Asked on 5/19/2015 by K8gr8t from CT

    1 answer

    • A:

The masks will fit but the aerokat and the small aerodawg chambers come with the same size masks. The only size of mask that you could get would be a large mask which is 3 inches in diameter.

  • Q:

WILL THESE FIT ON THE NEBULIZER OMRON NE-C801
    Asked on 5/3/2015 by FAWNDOBE

    1 answer

    • A:

We are not familiar with that nebulizer to know for sure whether it would be compatible or not. You will want to contact the manufacturer, Trudell, to find out that information. Their phone number is 1-800-465-3296.

  • Q:

Will these work for brachycephalic breeds? We have pugs. Sometimes the nose folds actually stick out from the face further than the nose itself and the brachy lower jaw is wide and doesn't stick out much.
Asked on 1/31/2015 by Rusty Pug Ranch from Sun City, CA

    1 answer

    • A:

We have had people use it on pugs before so it shouldn't be a problem. You may want to contact the manufacturer though just to be sure. They could probably give you a more definite answer. The manufacturer is Trudell medical and their phone number is 1-800-465-3296.

  • Q:

I don't know anything about inhalers or nebulizers. With the Aerodawg, do you need to purchase a Nebulizer as well - to use with the Aerodawg? I want to get this done today as my little guy is having a hard time breathing.
Asked on 1/22/2015 by Tucker59 from Marshfield, MO, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

The Aerodawg comes with a chamber that the medication is administered through and 2 masks. The only other thing you would need to purchase along with the Aerodawg is the medication.

Hi, I have a Westie that is 24 pounds.  Does the Aerodawg come in just two sizes, smal and large? I'm sure mine would take a nediun size.  Please let me know what I should order. Thanks, PJ I need response back ASAP....
Asked on 12/17/2014 by PJK1 from St Paul, MN, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Both the small and large Aerodawgs come with two masks. The small comes with a small and medium mask and the large comes with a medium and large mask so you can see which size fits your pet best.

We have a small aerodawg inhaler for our westie.  Unfortunately our larger mask has split. Can you please advise whether this would be classed as a 2 or 3 inch mask. Many thanks for your help
Asked on 12/7/2014 by Jacki from Bagshot, United Kingdom

    1 answer

    • A:

      Jacki,

The small aerodawg comes with a small and medium size mask, so the larger of the two is a 2 inch mask.

how do you use the aerodawg?
Asked on 11/5/2014 by Gaildawn from Santa Cruz, CA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      Gaildawn,

There should be a video on Youtube that shows you how to use the chamber. If you just search for "how to use an aerodawg chamber" a few different results will pop up that shows you exactly how to use it.

  • Q:

My vet told me I would have to get dosing info from the mfr? I have a 5 pound Toy Poodle 11 yrs old with Chronic Bronchitis. She has A very small snout. It"s possible even the 1.5 in would almost reach her eyes. What medication would you recommend.
Asked on 10/23/2014 by Rich B from La Mirada, CA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

The manufacturer of AeroDawg does not provide information on the dosing of medications, but does provide instructions, or instructional videos, for the use of the device (http://www.trudellmed.com/animal-health/aerodawg). A veterinarian must perform a clinical evaluation of your pet and the respiratory disease to determine what medication and dose are best. Selection of medication is based on several factors including the stage of your pet’s disease, weight of your pet, other chronic diseases occurring simultaneously, cost, etc.. When treating respiratory diseases, like chronic bronchitis, inhalable medications are important, because they are delivered to the site of the disease. In general, a nebulizer or metered dose inhaler will be prescribed for this purpose. A facemask is also essential for administration. If the facemask provided with the AeroDawg does not sufficiently fit around the snout, even after following instructions given by the AeroDawg manufacturer, you should follow-up with the veterinarian. The veterinarian may recommend the use of another mask (e.g., an anesthesia mask), or construct a custom one for your pet. An oral bronchodilator, corticosteroid, and/or antibiotic may also be used at the discretion of the veterinarian. However, oral medications may have additional side-effects when compared to inhaled medications.

      Thank you,

Is there a recommended replacement time/usage for the Aerodawg? My dog has been using hers for a year, and I was not sure if there was a replacement policy on this device after so many uses.
Asked on 8/11/2014 by LuLu14 from East Greenbush, NY

    1 answer

    • A:

The manufacturer recommends cleaning the chamber and mask weekly, and replacing the chamber every couple of years.

      Eldoba,

Side effects differ between medications used with the Aerodawg. If you are wondering about a certain medication, please feel free to call us and speak to a pharmacist or consult your veterinarian.

My dog Dewy has been suffering from a horrible night-time cough due to chronic bronchitis for months. Neither of us had been getting sleep during this time. I had been giving him prednisone twice a day - hydocan pills every 3-4 hours - cough syrup every 4 hours - prozac at night to help him stay calm and sleep...NOTHING WAS WORKING. My vet suggested the Flovent which I purchased the AeroDawg for. My concern was that my dog would fight taking it - squirm away - and just make it impossible to get the medicine into his lungs. My dog is not the most co-operative with things like that - so I really did not feel like it would work - but of course I had to try it. After I got it I spent about 10-15 minutes introducing it to him with treats of course! That's all it took for him to be comfortable. I gave him his first "puff" and he amazingly sat still with me and took all of his breaths! I was SHOCKED and of course so thrilled. He has been taking his twice daily puffs for about 1 week now and I am thrilled to report he has been sleeping through the night!! I have not been giving him any of his other meds! SO - anyone out there with a dog with similar issues - PLEASE try the Flovent, or whatever inhalant your Vet suggests, and get the AeroDawg. I seriously felt this was my last ditch effort to find something that would get his cough under control. Of course it is the RX that has helped him, but without the AeroDawg I wouldn't be able to get the RX into his body! It is also very easy to use and clean. I have arthritis in my hands and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to hold my dog, hold the AeroDawg, press the inhaler..all at once with hands that don't work so well. I have had no problem at all!

We bought this product for our 12 year old miniature/toy poodle with diabetes and chronic bronchitis. While the spacer works well, neither of the masks provided worked AT ALL. The smallest one was too short pushing his snout against the end, and the larger one was so big that medication escaped even when you pinched the bottom to seal it to the face. In order to used the spacer, we had to purchase a small feline mask for anesthesia from our vet. The masks and poor design was disappointing; however, the spacer works fine.

Virtually a life saver

Comments about Trudell Medical AeroDawg CAC:

Our boxer with pulmonary fibrosis couldn't take oral meds without stomach and intestinal discomfort. We had to give him 2 additional meds to counteract the side effects. He doesn't seem to mind the device (until the medicine is sprayed in). The part of the device that goes over his muzzle is flexible, so it's soft on his very sensitive muzzle. Because it disassembles, it's easy to clean. His breathing seems to be getting better now that we are able to easily administer the correct med for his sensitive system.
