Zylkene

Moving, kenneling, bringing a new baby or pet home – many things can cause your dog or cat to feel stressed. If your pet is suffering from stress or anxiety, your veterinarian might recommend Zylkene, a supplement that soothes animals and reduces stress.

  • Helps calm pets suffering from stress and anxiety
  • Use for short term or long-term treatment
  • For dogs and cats
  • Capsules can be dosed whole or added to food

Dogs and cats are susceptible to stress from many situations. A new baby, moving, the holidays, going to a kennel, and traveling can all cause your pet to be restless, have trouble sleeping, and feel stressed. Zylkene is a natural way to soothe your pet and stop behavioral problems that   stem from stress including improper urination, separation anxiety, and destructive behavior. This nutritional supplement is made from a special milk protein with peptides that can impact the brain receptors that cause stress.  It has a calming effect on dogs and cats without causing sleepiness. And you can use Zylkene safely with other supplements.  Talk to your veterinarian about the right dosing schedule for your dog or cat. The pills can be administered whole or the capsule contents can be sprinkled on food.

What you should know about Zylkene:

Asked on 3/29/2014 by Lindsay from San Ramon, CA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      Lindsay,

The manufacturer recommended dosage for Zylkene is listed below:

      75mg capsules
      For cats: 1 capsule daily
For dogs 10 pounds or less: 1 capsule daily
For dogs 11 to 22 pounds: 2 capsules daily

      225mg capsules:
For dogs 22 to 32 pounds: 1 capsule
For dogs 33 to 65 pounds: 2 capsules

      450mg capsules:
For dogs 33 to 65 pounds: 1 capsule
For dogs 66 to 132 pounds: 2 capsules

The most cost effective option for your dogs would be the 450mg capsules, giving 1 each daily.

  • Q:

Good morning, is this a med I need to give daily or just when it is needed? Does my dog need to build a tolerance for this med. to work.
    Asked on 2/18/2014 by Onyxmom

    1 answer

    • A:

The manufacturer indicates a couple of different administration options, detailed below.

For short term use: Use for 1-2 days before the predicted event or change in environment.
Some animals may need earlier administration (5-7 days).
Longer term use: 1-2 months. The manufacturer does not indicate what situations would necessitate longer term use, you should consult your veterinarian if you think that your dog might need longer term administration.

Each bottle will indicate the appropriate number of capsules daily based on the weight of your dog.

Comments about Vetoquinol Zylkene Nutritional Supplement:

I have a little Bischon who's personality is carefree, happy-go-lucky, friendly, loving, playful etc... you get the idea. That all suddenly changed one day, she did not want to play, not motivated by food, shaking, hiding, and would not go out side. I believe something tried to attack her in the backyard. She uses a doggie door to go in and out of on her own. Oh, did I mention she begin soiling all over the house, something she never did.
Took her to the Vet, did blood work, urine etc.... no physical symptoms. She was experiencing severe anxiety- fear!
I started her on the Zylkene and together with a consistent re-training routine, she is improving. She still will not go out side on her own, but to see her happy again, warms my heart.
She begin improving within the same week of starting the Zylkene. She has not side affects! Great Product!!!!! And did I mention its a non-invasive way to treat anxiety!!!!! Love It.

Comments about Vetoquinol Zylkene Nutritional Supplement:

I bought this product to help alleviate PTSD in my 6 yr old golden retriever at the suggestion of my vet. He is on 2-450mg caps a day and has been for 2 months and is doing remarkably well. He is so much calmer and happier. I can see that he is not at all stressed out like he used to be. Before he took these, he would jump up from a down position every time I would move (i.e. changing positions on the couch, getting up from a chair, etc.) Now he stays put and I am so happy to see him so much more relaxed. Definitely would recommend giving this a try but it is expensive.

Comments about Vetoquinol Zylkene Nutritional Supplement:

An all-natural, healthy solution to gently and subtly curb stress and anxiety in your pet brought on by sudden changes to their daily routine, such as home renovations! This product takes approximately one week to take effect which in my opinion is safer than a "quick fix" tranquilizer.
