Vetoryl (trilostane) Capsules for Cushing's Disease in Dogs

Managing Cushing’s Disease in dogs centers on controlling the level of cortisol in your dog’s bloodstream. Trilostane, the active ingredient in prescription Vetoryl, effectively regulates cortisol in the adrenal gland easing symptoms of the disease in dogs.

  •  Helps control cortisol production
  •  Effective in treating adrenal-dependent and pituitary-dependent forms of the disease
  •  Reduces symptoms of the disease over time
  •  Available in four dosage levels

Cushing’s Disease, or hyperadrenocorticism, causes a range of physical challenges for dogs from weakened immune systems to hair loss. Dogs with the disease have too much of the hormone cortisol, produced in times of stress, in their bloodstream. Prescription Vetoryl’s active ingredient, trilostane, helps regulate cortisol production in the adrenal gland and reduces disease symptoms. This medication is also effective for dogs with the pituitary form of Cushing’s Disease. With regular administration of Vetoryl you should see improvements in your dog’s condition in a matter of weeks.

  • Q:

My dog is prescribed 50 mg. His weight is 125 lbs. Is the best way to get that amount with 1 30mg and 2 10mg ?
Asked on 1/2/2015 by Bojo from Washington, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Brand name Vetoryl oral capsules are available in doses of 10 mg, 30 mg or 60 mg. Administering one 30 mg capsule along with two 10 mg capsules is one option for providing your dog with their prescribed 50 mg dose. VetRxDirect is able to compound a 50mg capsule of trilostane, the active ingredient in Vetoryl with a prescription from your veterinarian. Discuss with your veterinarian the option to compound the 50mg strength of trilostane to determine if this would be appropriate for your dog.

  • Q:

MY DOG ACCIDENTLY TOOK A 10 MGS CAPSULE OF VETORYL THAT MY DOG WITH CUSHINGS DISEASE TAKES. WILL IT HURT HER?
    Asked on 8/22/2014 by GAIL48

    1 answer

    • A:

A 10 mg capsule should have little effect since this is a low dose but this will depend on the size of the dog that took the dose. Monitor your pet for side effects such as prolonged tiredness, weakness, vomiting and diarrhea and report these symptoms to your veterinarian as soon as possible.

      Thank you,

We have a Bichon Frise diagnosed with cushings about 8 months ago. He has been on trilostane since he was diagnosed and the condition is completely under control. It is not cheap but it does the job.

Comments about Dechra Vetoryl (trilostane):

Been using this for over a year now on my dog that has Cushing's disease. She takes a 30mg and a 10mg every morning with a little bit of peanut butter. Just recently had her blood tested to make sure it was within tolerance and everything checked good, so I would say this medicine is working as intended.

My dog is 16 with cushings and an irregular heartbeat. We live month by month as she also has an abscessed tooth that cannot be extracted due to her heart concerns. Thanks to vetRX we are able to order and receive her cushings medicine more timely and less expensive than anywhere else near us.

Comments about Dechra Vetoryl (trilostane):

I tried another on-line vet prescription firm before I found VetRx Direct. The prior service made errors, and I experienced significant delays in receiving my prescription order. I have come to rely on dependable, timely, friendly error-free service from VetRx Direct. On many items, the cost is half as much as I can get it locally. Amazing! Thanks to all at VetRx Direct!
