Tri-otic Ointment for Dogs

For powerful treatment of canine ear infections at a budget-friendly price, ask your veterinarian for Tri-otic ointment, the generic form of Otomax. This soothing cream quickly relieves your dog’s painful, swollen, and itchy ears.

  • Treats ear infections due to bacteria and yeast
  • Reduces inflammation, pain, and itching
  • Also helps reduce ear wax production

Powerful Tri-otic ointment is effective because it blends three antimicrobials into one medication for treating ear infections. This combination of gentamicin sulfate, betamethasone valerate and clotrimazole work together to stop bacteria and yeast, which are the source of infections, while soothing the symptoms including pain, swelling, and annoying itching.

What you should know about Tri-otic ointment for dogs:

  • You may need to clean and dry your dog’s ears before applying this medication.
  • Follow dosing directions exactly - don’t give your dog more medication than directed and don’t skip doses.
  • Read the label carefully for information about storage, possible side effects, and drug interactions.

  • Q:

Can I use it if it has expired.....it may not be as effective, but will not go bad?????
Asked on 5/26/2015 by Suez from Cedar Grove, Indiana, United States

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Tri-Otic is an ear ointment with three active ingredients, clotrimazole (antifungal), gentamicin (antibiotic), and betamethasone (corticosteroid). VetRxDirect does not recommend using any medication past the manufacturer's stated expiration date. Using an inferior, expired medication can lead to superinfections and antimicrobial resistance. Contact your veterinarian if you think your pet may have an ear infection.

  • Q:

My dog has cauliflower ears, the vet rec EKT once a week x 1 month. Is to expensive to do it at the vet office  for 1 month. She suggested I buy the product, but I can not find a clinic that sell it to me.  Do you have it or a something else??
Asked on 12/13/2014 by piribisca from Puerto Rico

    1 answer

    • A:

VetRxDirect does not stock or sell EKT otic ointment. A prescription from your veterinarian would be required for all antibiotic/antifungal/anti-inflammatory otic preparations. VetRxDirect does stock several of these combinations. The choice of which drug would be the most appropriate for your pet would be made by your veterinarian.

  • Q:

Can a puppy get a urinary tract infection from using this antibiotic?
Asked on 7/1/2014 by Harper from New Jersey, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      Harper,

Tri-otic ointment is made up of gentamicin (antibiotic), betamethasone (antiinflammatory steroid), and clotrimazole (antifungal). It is normally used for painful, swollen, or itchy ears. While very unlikely to cause a urinary tract infection (UTI), corticosteroids may decrease the immune system making your puppy more vulnerable to get a UTI. If you are concerned that your puppy has a UTI is important to follow up with a veterinarian as soon as possible.

  • Q:

do I need a prescription from my current vet to order .
Asked on 6/13/2014 by cliffy from Vancouver, WA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      Cliffy,

Yes, Tri-Otic ointment does require a prescription within the US. We can accept this prescription in a couple of different ways. Once you place an order, we can fax your pet's veterinarian for approval and the clinic can fax the prescription back, or the veterinarian may choose to issue you a written prescription which you would then need to mail to us.

      Thank you,
      VetRxDirect

  • Q:

will this tri octi ointment work as well as ( vetromax) my vet prescribed this but I am out. and it works awesome. but it cost me $40.00 15g
Asked on 6/13/2014 by clifforce from Vancouver, WA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Because Tri-Otic ointment is a prescription medication, it will be up to your dog's veterinarian to decide if Tri-Otic would be a good substitute for the medication you are using. It contains an anti-fungal, an antibiotic, and a steroid, which make it a popular option for treating dogs' ears.

      Thank you,

  • Q:

my dog currently is using Otibiotic Ointment the company is Butler Schein animal health is this the same type of medicine for the dogs ears? This is definitely cheaper than at my local vet.
Asked on 4/10/2014 by tbone71 from Coeur d'Alene, ID, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      tbone71,

Yes, there are a few variations of the gentamicin, betamethasone, and clotrimazole drug combination for ear infections in dogs. All of them are prescription products and would require authorization from your pet's veterinarian before we could send your order. We're happy to fax a request to your veterinarian after you place your online order.

      Thank you,
      VetRxDirect

  • Q:

If I order the product do you contact the vet or do we?
Asked on 2/15/2014 by tjlittles from Springfield, MO, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Once an order is placed, we send a request for the prescription via fax to the veterinarian that you listed when you checked out. Most clinics are willing to approve the fax and send it back to us if your pet is up-to-date on exams and bloodwork.

Some clinics have policies in place that prevent them from answering faxed requests, if your clinic has a policy like this, they may choose to issue you a written prescription. We can accept written prescriptions issued to you by the veterinarian, though we have to have the original so it needs to be mailed to us. Pharmacy law prevents us from accepting a copy (including a fax or scan) of a prescription that has been issued to you.

      Thank you,
      VetRxDirect

Comments about Phoenix Tri-Otic Ointment:

First you check to see if they carry the medicine your vet ordered. If not check the meds ingredients and look them up and find a match. You them place the order and give them your vets info and they take care of the rest. It was really easy...saving money takes a few extra steos but it is worth it
