Tri-Heart Plus

Give your pup triple protection from dangerous heartworm and intestinal worm infections with economical Tri-Heart Plus. Tri-Heart Plus is an alternative to Heartgard Plus and Iverhart Plus.

  • Combines preventive heartworm medicine with an intestinal de-wormer
  • Effectively kills the immature form of heartworm
  • Treats and prevents roundworms and hookworms
  • Tasty chewable tablet makes for easy monthly dosing

Tri-Heart Plus is the generic alternative to Heartgard Plus. It works just as effectively, killing immature heartworm and intestinal worms including hookworms and roundworms. This medication features the same active ingredients as brand name heartworm drugs: Ivermectin and Pyrantel pamoate.

Dogs love the flavored chewable Tri-Heart Plus tablets so dosing is easy. Just give your dog a tablet at the same time each month for ongoing protection.  Owners love Tri-Heart Plus because this generic medication saves them money!

What you should know about Tri-Heart Plus:

  • Safe for dogs 6 weeks and older
  • Follow dosing directions exactly - don’t give your dog more medication than directed and don’t skip doses.
  • Read the label carefully for information about storage, possible side effects, and drug interactions.

Tri-Heart Plus is sold as a prescription drug in a maximum of a 12 month supply per pet per order per year.

Most veterinarians require and the American Heartworm Society recommends an annual heartworm test before prescribing Tri-Heart Plus heartworm preventative for your pet.

  • Q:

Can I give my 52lb dog the tablets for dogs 26-50lbs? Or do I have to give her the 50-100lb tablet?
Asked on 2/6/2015 by choy from New York

    1 answer

    • A:

Heartworm medications should be prescribed and given as directed by the manufacturer. A 52 pound dog should get the 50-100 pound dose. Please talk with your dog's veterinarian for more information.

  • Q:

I gave my dog his first Tri-heart plus pill on November 20th.  I need to give him a pill for December, which has past.  Is it alright to give him the pill now or do I need to have him re-tested.  What is the time frame that is acceptable between dosages?
Asked on 1/4/2015 by dam1345 from Long Island, NY

    1 answer

    • A:

For Tri-Heart Plus to be as effective as possible, the chewable tablet must be given once per month or every 30 days. If the time between doses exceeds 30 days, the medication’s effectiveness in preventing heartworm can be reduced. Giving your pet his next dose of Tri-Heart Plus as soon as you realized that the optimal date has passed can help reduce the opportunity for the development of heartworms. Also, please consult your veterinarian regarding having your pet re-tested for heartworms.

Does this product help kill fleas and ticks? Or do i need to get something else to go with this?
Asked on 7/22/2014 by Rae32 from Redding, Ca

This product does not kill fleas and ticks. It is used as a preventative against heartworm, roundworms, and hookworms. You would need to get a different treatment for fleas and ticks which comes as a topical medication.

Hi My dog is heartworm positive. Can she still take this?
Asked on 5/1/2014 by hesongjie from Baton Rouge, LA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      hesongjie,

Tri-Heart Plus Chewable is a medication that helps prevent canine heartworm disease by eliminating the target stage of heartworm larvae for a month after infection and for the treatment and control of ascarids and hookworms. Your veterinarian may still advise you to use this medication even if the pet tests positive for heartworms. Please contact your veterinarian for further guidance on the appropriate therapy.

I always use vetrxdirect for my pets medication. It's much less expensive than the vet and 1-800-PetMeds! They're also super fast, my orders often come in only a few days. Medication works great and dogs love the taste. Only place I order my pets medications.

Comments about Merck Animal Health Tri-Heart Plus Chewable Tablets for Dogs:

I bought Tri-Heart because the previous owner had been using it. I always bought the HartGuard soft chew for my other dog. She won't take it unless I wrap it in cheese. I'm going back to the chew when these are done.

Tri-Heart Plus Chewable Tablets for Dogs. I have been using this product for many years, over 5 years. When I first purchased it I was afraid because it wasn't a little beef flavored cube they wouldn't take it, but my 3 babies love them!
I am super pleased with the kind, and very professional service I receive from VetRxDirect. All my orders arrive in a timely fashion. The packaging is always in superb order. I can't say enough good things about this company. Their prices are unbeatable.

I would highly recommend VetRxDirect for all your pet's needs. Give them a try, I promise you won't be disappointed.

I had to buy this brand for my highly food-allergic dog. After some digging, I found that this does not contain the wheat or corn that she is allergic to.

The Ttri-hart I bought is comparable to the more expensive name brand Heartgard and just as effective. The cost is much lower.
