Sentinel Flavor Tabs

Sentinel contains milbemycin oxime (the active ingredient in Interceptor), plus lufenuron.

Sentinel Flavor Tabs make it easy to protect your pup from the worst pests. Give your dog one beef-flavored tablet a month to prevent, control, and treat intestinal worm infections --heartworms, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms. Sentinel also breaks the flea life cycle by stopping the development of flea eggs.

  • One tablet protects your dog from heartworm, hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm
  • Stops the flea life cycle
  • Once a month dosing
  • Tasty flavored tablets dogs love

The active ingredient in Sentinel, milbemycin oxime, works on two levels to protect your dog from intestinal worms. It stops heartworm larvae from developing and kills adult roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms.  Sentinel also contains lufenuron, an insect development inhibitor which stops flea eggs from maturing and breaks the flea life cycle. Dogs think the great tasting beef-flavored tabs are treats so dosing is a snap.  Note: this medication does not kill adult fleas so you may need to treat your dog with an additional medication to control adult fleas.

Which Sentinel tab do I use for my 8 pound dog?
    Asked on 1/14/2014 by addie

    1 answer

    • A:

      Adelaide,

Sentinel comes in several different weight ranges. An eight-pound dog would fall in the 2-10 pound category for Sentinel. It is available in a 6- or a 12-month supply. Once an order is placed, we will send a request to your dog's veterinarian for approval of the prescription.

  • Q:

What is the difference between Trifexus and sentinal?
Asked on 12/29/2013 by char41 from florida

    1 answer

    • A:

Trifexis and Sentinel both contain milbemycin oxime, however they each also contain an additional different active ingredient. Sentinel also has lufenuron and Trifexis has spinosad.

Sentinel is labeled for protection against heartworm, hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm, and to help break the flea life cycle (it is not intended to kill adult fleas, so an additional flea medication may be needed).

Trifexis is also intended to to prevent heartworm, hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm infections, and helps to kill fleas and prevent flea infestations (you may also want an additional flea protection).

Your pet's veterinarian will be the best resource for deciding which medication is the right choice for your dog.

      Thank you,

    1 answer

    • A:

      Stephanie,

We're sorry, but there currently is not a product available that covers all three of these parasites. Talk with your pet's veterinarian about the best products for your pet and your area.

  • Q:

My dogs are on Trifexis once a month chewable pill. I was wondering if it is the same as the sentinel. If not what is the difference?Thank you
    Asked on 9/13/2013 by Belinda

    1 answer

    • A:

      Belinda,

Both products contain milbemycin oxime as an active drug. Sentinel includes lufenuron, while Trifexis includes spinosad.

Sentinel is labeled for the prevention of heartworm disease, for the prevention and control of flea populations, the control of adult hookworms, and the removal and control of adult roundworms and adult whipworms.

Trifexis is labeled for the prevention of heartworm disease, for the prevention and treatment of flea infestations, the treatment and control of adult hookworm, adult roundworm, and adult whipworm.

It is best to discuss which flea and prescription heartworm preventatives are best for your pet and your area with your dog's veterinarian.

      Thank you,

Comments about Novartis Sentinel Flavor Tabs for Dogs:

My dog had terrible fleas. Frontline was not working. She was due for a new heartworm course anyways, so I gave her sentinel and did one treatment with a topical liquid that kills adult fleas, and she has been completely flea-free for about a month

Comments about Novartis Sentinel Flavor Tabs for Dogs:

I have purchased this heartworm medication from VetRXDirect for the past year and 1/2 and it has always arrived on time and is the exact product I used to purchase from my veterinarian. I put it in my dog's food dish along with his food and he eats it right up - never even realizes it is there. He is 10 now and has used Sentinel monthly since he was a puppy.

Comments about Novartis Sentinel Flavor Tabs for Dogs:

I have a 1 year old golden retriever. She has been on sentinel for over 6 months and I love it. The only close competitor for sentinel is trifexis. The only advantage in my opinion of trifexis is the fact that it kills adult flees where sentinel will only prevent flea eggs.

Comments about Novartis Sentinel Flavor Tabs for Dogs:

My beagle was on sentinel when I got him from the breeder and he didn't have one flea on him, topicals don't work this good, I wish it took care of ticks too but unfortunately you still have to use a topical for ticks!!!
