Otomax Ear Drops and Ointment for Dogs

Irritating, aggravating, and painful – ear infections can be all three at once. When your dog needs relief from an acute outer ear infection due to bacteria or yeast, talk to your veterinarian about prescription Otomax.

  • Combines anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal treatments in one medication
  • Eases pain, inflammation, and itching quickly and effectively
  • Available in two forms: ear drops or ointment

Otomax is a powerful combination of gentamicin sulfate, betamethason valerate, and clotrimazole that relieves inflammation, itching, pain, and fungal activity due to infections. This prescription medication is available in convenient ear drops or as an ointment and in several different sizes.

  • Q:

How many 5 drop doses are in a 15 G tube of Otomax ointment
Asked on 5/20/2015 by Valli from Alberta, Canada

    1 answer

    • A:

The Otomax otic ointment has about 450 drops per 15 gram tube. This number is an approximation and will depend on the size of drops administered. The 15 gram tube should provide about 90 doses if you are administering 5 drops to one ear.

My vet wont allow me to buy from anywhere else.. any suggestions?
Asked on 11/18/2014 by jessie from KCMO, MO, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      Jessie,

If your veterinarian will provide you with a written prescription, you would be able to mail that to us and we can fill from that. Otherwise the only other options are to get an OTC item that does not require a prescription or to maybe find another vet that would allow you to buy from somewhere else.

      Tawny,

As a prescription medication, pharmacies require authorization from your pet's veterinarian to purchase Otomax. VetRxDirect is a trusted, licensed, and accredited pet pharmacy. We urge you to talk to your pet's veterinarian about your pet's options.

  • Q:

What is the difference between the ointment and the ear drops.
    Asked on 11/11/2013 by Jon

    1 answer

    • A:

      Jon,

Otomax is only available as an ointment, but it is available in two different types of packages: a 7.5gm tube, a 15gm tube, a 15gm bottle and a 30gm bottle. The bottle would be better for applying drops of ointment and the tube would be better for applying lines of the product.

  • Q:

can i get this without a prescription
    Asked on 9/3/2013 by kathy

    1 answer

    • A:

      Kathy,

Otomax is a prescription drug and all prescription drugs have the potential for serious side effects, which can be more common and severe if the pet meds are not given under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian who has a valid client / patient relationship.

We recommend talking with your pet's veterinarian about what is best for dog's ear infection.

      Thank you,

It's working great for ear infections

Comments about Merck Animal Health Otomax Otic Ointment:

My golden tends to develop ear itches and infections through the year. I clean her ears with the natural ointment and ear drops but when her allergy gets bad, her inner ears become red and look inflamed. Her vet recommended Otomax Otic Ointment and I notice her ears look pink after coupe days. It's working great for my dog and I have not noticed any side effects.

Comments about Merck Animal Health Otomax Otic Ointment:

I use this regularly to prevent infections in my cat's ears. In smaller quantities, this medicine comes in a metal tube that breaks with frequent use. The 30 gram container is a plastic bottle that makes it super easy to administer the medication. Much better than the metal tube.
