K-CIT-V (potassium citrate) Chewable Tablets Supplement for Dogs.

What is K-Cit-V?

K-Cit-V is a supplement for dogs to adjust their urinary pH. It is designed to help reduce urinary stones under veterinarian supervision. It contains potassium citrate, which helps make the urine a less favorable pH for developing stones. K-Cit-V should only be used under veterinarian approval as it only works for certain disorders and may make renal insufficiency worse. The dosage is 1 tablet per 20 lbs of body weight twice daily or as directed by your pet’s veterinarian.

You can find a package label which provides more detailed information on K-Cit-V indications, forms of administration, and side effects, along with other clinical information, by following the link below:

The chewable tablet form of K-Cit-V is okay to be split in half and to be given to your pet. However, due to your pet’s current medical conditions and other past medical history unknown to us, we recommend you consult your veterinarian regarding the correct dose of this medication for your specific pet.

  • Q:

My dog's PH is around 7.5, he now takes 1 and a half tabs of Potassium Citrate with cranberry chewable , should I reduce the dose a little?
Asked on 1/24/2015 by Shadow from Fort Myers, FL

    1 answer

    • A:

      Shadow,

When using K-CIT-V supplement for the prevention of calcium oxalate urinary stones in your pet, the pH of your pet’s urine is important to monitor. The manufacturer of K-CIT-V recommends the urinary pH range to be between 7 and 7.5. There are additional monitoring recommendations other than pH though. We advise that you contact your veterinarian to assist you in the dosing of this product for your pet.

  • Q:

Is the K-Plus Potassium Citrate plus cranberry for decreasing PH levels? My Rottweiler is almost 6 months old and has constant UTI's with increase PH levels causing struvite crystals. Will this supplement be helpful for us?
    Asked on 1/10/2015 by Tdavis

    1 answer

    • A:

The potassium citrate in K-CIT-V Plus cranberry is designed to alkalinize or INCREASE the pH of your pet’s urine for the treatment of certain types of urinary stones. Since struvite crystals are the result of an increased urinary pH, this product would NOT be beneficial for your pet. Please note: A urinary blockage is a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment. If your pet is unable to urinate, it is important to get him or her to a veterinary clinic immediately. Please consult your veterinarian regarding treatment, monitoring and follow-up for your pet’s condition.

  • Q:

My dog has been on Crananidan Extract for several months.PH was great a few months after beginning treatment but is starting to creep back up.Is the K-CIT-V a stronger formula? If too strong, can it cause the crystals to become the kind that won't dissolve?
Asked on 4/13/2014 by Judie from Roundup, MT, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      Judie,

The two products work by different mechanisms of action and can not be directly compared to each other. Crananidin Extract works by preventing bacteria from attaching to the inner lining of the bladder wall and allowing bacteria to be flushed out in the urine. K-Cit-V works by altering the urinary Ph. Also, there is a product K-Cit-V plus Cranberry, which is a combination product of the two. Please contact your pet’s veterinarian regarding which product is ideal for your pet.

      Thank you,

I have been giving my dog Scooter K-CIT-V ever since he had bladder stone surgery. I found vetrxdirect while looking for this product more reasonably priced, since I was going to have to give it to him from now on. He is on his eighth or ninth bottle and he is good health with no return of stones. Scooter thanks you for making this product available at a good price so I could afford it. Thanks, David G.

Great Value that works for my Bear!

Comments about V.E.T. Pharmaceuticals K-CIT-V:

Bear has had issues with urinary stones. His ph levels were low even after the diet change. Adding this has helped tremendously! Generally he turns his nose up when offered other beef flavored snacks. He loves this one though.

Pills are well packaged. Stuffing with cotton helps reduce the amount of broken pills. I would recommend K-CIT-V to any dog that has urinary stone issues.

I bought this for the first time in November 2013 after my shih-Tzu had surgery for a large calcium oxalate stone. It has been over a year now and he is showing no signs of any stones. I just recently reordered another bottle because I think it is really helping him.
