Active ingredient chlorhexidine works against types of bacteria and yeast, while ketoconazole helps provide protection from fungus. Does glyChlorK shampoo cause infertility in male breeding dogs with the ingredient, Ketoconazole in the shampoo? What about female dogs? Will it cause pregnant dogs to lose their puppies or produce puppies with birth defects? How safe is this product for breeding dogs? Thank you, Lin?

While it's unlikely that the occasional use of the ketoconazole shampoo would cause decrease your male dog's fertility, the possibility can't be ruled out entirely. Topical ketoconazole hasn't been shown to cause birth defects but should be avoided in dogs that are currently/will soon be nursing puppies as ketoconazole can be excreted in milk. To be on the safe side, you could use Malaseb, as miconazole (the antifungal in Malaseb) doesn't cause issues in fertility and is safe for pregnant and lactating dogs. http://www.vetrxdirect.com/product/view/malaseb-medicated-shampoo-dogs/variation-655
