Resistance is a major concern when giving antibiotics. Resistance occurs when bacteria survive and mutate and are then able to survive even after antibiotics are given. To help avoid any resistance, it is important to give antibiotics as they are prescribed for as long as they are prescribed even if your pet is looking and feeling better.

Q:Do I need a prescription for this from the Vet?
A:Yes, this does require a prescription from a veterinarian.
Q:which is the right dosage of gentamicin for a 5 pounds poppy?
A:The manufacturer recommends topically applying a ½ inch strip of ointment to the affected eye(s) 2 to 3 times daily regardless of weight or as directed by your veterinarian. Because it is a prescription medication, your puppy's veterinarian will determine the appropriate dosing. To apply the medication you may hold the container above the eye and gently squeeze ½ inch line of ointment along the inside of the lower eyelids. To avoid contamination, do not touch the tip of the container to the eye or eyelid.

Comments about Perrigo Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Ointment:
VetRxDirect is a great deal! We have 6 animals, three of whom are 12 years old, and starting to have some health problems. We save a lot of money getting prescriptions through VetRx rather than our vet's pharmacy. It's usually at 1/3 the price at VetRx.
