What problems could my dog have with Firocoxib?

  • Firocoxib should be used with caution in dogs that are taking other NSAIDs or corticosteroids. 
  • The use of Firocoxib is cautioned in dehydrated dogs, dogs on diuretic therapy, dogs with a bleeding disorder, and dogs with existing kidney, liver, or heart problems.
  • Firocoxib should be used in caution in dogs that are very old or under the age of 7 months.
  • Firocoxib is tolerated well in the vast majority of dogs, but rarely, serious side effects may occur, such as stomach ulcers and liver or kidney problems.
  • Adverse reactions may include decreased appetite, weight loss, vomiting, changes in bowel movements, changes in behavior or activity levels, incoordination, seizures or aggression, jaundice, and changes in skin, drinking, or urination habits. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you see any of these signs.

How do you use Firocoxib?

  • Use this medication as directed by your veterinarian. 
  • Firocoxib may be given either with food or on an empty stomach, but giving it with food may reduce the chances of stomach problems occurring. 
  • If your animal vomits or acts sick after receiving the drug on an empty stomach, try giving the next dose with food or a small treat. If vomiting continues, contact your veterinarian.
