What is Enisyl-F?

Enisyl-F is a L-Lysine supplement for cats which may help with feline herpes virus infections. Specifically, Enisyl may reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks. Enisyl provides L-Lysine in an easy to administer treat or oral paste formulation. For the treat formulation, the manufacturer recommends giving 6 treats a day for prevention and up to 12 treats per day for flare-ups. For the oral paste, the manufacturer recommends giving 1-2 pumps (each pump equals 1mL of paste) twice daily for adult cats and giving 1 pump (1mL) twice daily for kittens. These are general guidelines and they do not take place of the recommendations of your pet's veterinarian.

You can find a package insert which provides more detailed information on Enisyl-F Lysine Treats and Oral Past for Cats' indications, forms of administration, and side effects along with other clinical information by following the links below:

  • Q:

I'm wondering if these are small, crunchy treats as opposed to the chewy fish shaped ones. My cats seem to prefer the former and I haven't been able to find them and our vet changed brands.

    • A:

Enisyl-F Lysine Treats by Vetoquinol, contain 250mg of L-lysine in every 6 treats and do have a crunchy texture. Confirm with your veterinarian if Enisyl-F Lysine Treats would be appropriate for your cats and how many treats would be recommended on a daily basis.

  • Q:

we have a himalaya cat diagnosed with herpes and currently given viralys but just found enisyl-f on your site and was wondering which might be the best to used as well as most economical. She does not like to be given viralys but she still gets it

      Dennis,

Both Enisyl-F and Viralys are L-lysine supplements, there is a difference in the route of administration - Enisyl-F is available in an oral paste and in treat form and Viralys is available as an oral gel or a powder that can be added to food.  Your cat's veterinarian can help guide you as far as whether one makes better sense for you and your cat if there are sensitivities to any of the other ingredients - ingredient lists can be found on each products page on the website under the package insert tab.

As far as what makes the most sense economically:

Enisyl-F oral paste: 250mg of L-Lysine per 1 milliliter of paste

      Enisyl-F treats: 250mg of L-Lysine per 6 treats

Viralys gel: 250mg of L-Lysine per 1.25 milliliters of gel

Viralys powder: 500mg per rounded scoop of powder

Your cat's veterinarian can provide you with a recommendation for the amount of L-Lysine needed for your cat.

      Thank you,

My vet recommended I buy this for my cat who had a chronic head cold. It seems to work pretty good. My cat and the other cat I have love the treats. Cost was so much lower at this site than the 30 bucks from the vet . Recommended

Comments about Vetoquinol Enisyl-F (L-Lysine):

We have 13 indoor cats and when we get a herpes URI it goes through most of the menagerie. Most of them find this treat palatable and will eat it. I wish they could make a lysine treat that tasted better than this one does but it is about the best thing out there.

After getting the wrong product, and once the corrected Lysine for Cats was sent out; my cats symptoms began getting better each day this treat is incorporated into her diet. This is like a treat for my my cat, but helps her eyes stay clear from mucus.

My cat has never refused this pump paste. Her eye was closing with Herpes until I found out about giving her daily doses. She loves it as her morning treat.

My cat loves it!

Comments about Vetoquinol Enisyl-F (L-Lysine):

My cat has feline herpes in his eyes. I was watching him get worse and worse and thought surely there is something else we can do for him. I searched and found these Lysine Treats. L-Lysine has kept my herpes simplex cold sores at bay, so I thought this would possibly help our cat. He likes them as treats and I also put them in his cat food. I can't say that the herpes have gone away, but I know he's better and certainly not getting worse. I will be ordering more.
