DESCRIPTION:

Micro Pearls Advantage™ Benzoyl-Plus™ Shampoo is a remarkable breakthrough in animal health care technology. Benzoyl-Plus™ Shampoo contains micro-targeted NOVASOME® microvesicles and the recognized bacteria fighting ingredient benzoyl peroxide. The Novasome® microvesicles are designed to deliver long lasting moisture to the shafts and epidermal layers. These microvesicles counteract the drying effects of an oxidizing benzoyl peroxide shampoo.

Safe for use on dogs and cats.

DIRECTIONS:

Shake well. Wet coat thoroughly before applying shampoo. Work shampoo into coat until a mild lather is produced. Allow to stand 10-15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary. Benzoyl-Plus™ Shampoo may be used daily or weekly as directed by your veterinarian. As with any medicated product, gloves should be worn when applying this product.

INGREDIENTS:

Contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide in a mild shampoo base containing water, decyl polyglucose, glycerin, carbomer, tocopheryl acetate, glyceryl stearate, sodium hydroxide, dimethicone, cholesterol, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, potassium oleate, propylene glycol, nonoxynol-20, octoxynol-5, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, tetrasodium EDTA.

PRECAUTIONS:

For topical use only on dogs and cats. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Discontinue use if skin becomes irritated or inflamed. Systemic antibiotic treatment may be indicated if condition does not improve. Store at controlled room temperature. May bleach color fabrics.

General Description:

Benzoyl peroxide shampoo is an antibacterial, keratolytic and follicular flushing shampoo useful in the topical treatment of pyoderma, foliculitis and seborrheic skin conditions in of dogs, cats and horses. Benzoyl peroxide shampoo opens and flushes hair follicles and degreases oily coats. Moisturizers counteract the drying effects of the oxidizing benzoyl peroxide. The shampoo may temporarily increase scaliness, but this will lessen with continued bathing. Benzoyl peroxide shampoo is available in 2.5% or 3% strengths, and is marketed in several sizes.

What is this product?
  • Benzoyl peroxide - available in 2.5% and 3% strengths
  • A shampoo with moisturizer(s); used topically
Reasons for prescribing:
  • Used to treat red, itchy and inflamed skin, seborrhea, canine and feline acne and other conditions where a keratolytic product might be helpful
  • Degreases oily, smelly and scaly coats
What animals should not use this product?
  • Benzoyl peroxide shampoo is not effective against parasitic infections (ie. fleas, ticks, etc.)
  • Those with dry or sensitive skin
  • Animals with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to benzoyl peroxide or any of the other ingredients
Directions:

Read and carefully follow the directions provided by your veterinarian.
Shake well. Wet coat thoroughly before applying shampoo. Apply shampoo to head and ears, neck, chest, middle and hind quarters, finishing with the legs. Massage shampoo into the wet coat until a rich lather is produced. Allow the lather to remain on the animal for 5-10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. For best results, repeat procedure.
Follow your veterinarian’s advice on the frequency of product application, as products vary.
Systemic antibiotic treatment may be indicated if the condition does not improve.
The frequency and length of use of this product depends upon the condition being treated and your animal’s response to the medication.
The shampoo may temporarily increase scaliness, but this will lessen with continued bathing.
As with any medicated shampoo, gloves should be worn when applying this product.

What if a treatment is missed?

If a treatment is missed, perform it as soon as you can. If it is already time for the next treatment, skip the missed treatment and go back to the normal schedule.

Talk to your veterinarian about:
  • When will your animal need to be rechecked
  • What tests may need to be performed prior to and during treatment with this drug
  • What are the risks and benefits of using this drug
Tell your veterinarian about:
  • If your animal has experienced side-effects on other drugs/products
  • If your animal has experienced any other medical problems or allergies now or ever
  • All medicines and supplements that you are giving your animal or plan to give your animal, including those you can get without a prescription. Your veterinarian may want to check that all of your animal's medicines can be given together.
Storage and Warnings:

For topical use only on dogs, cats and horses.
Discontinue use if skin becomes irritated or inflamed.
Systemic antibiotic treatment may be indicated if condition does not improve.
May bleach or stain carpets and fabric if animal is not thoroughly rinsed.
Store at controlled room temperature (59-86°F).
Avoid getting it in your animal's eyes, ears or mucous membranes.
Keep this and all medication out of reach of children and animals. For external animal use only.
Wash hands and exposed skin after use.

Potential side effects:
  • Benzoyl peroxide is a strong degreasing agent that can be irritating and drying, especially at concentrations above 3%
  • If you notice any unusual symptoms, discontinue use and contact your veterinarian
Can this product be used with other drugs?
  • Yes, but if your animal experiences any unusual reactions when using multiple medications, contact your veterinarian.

What else should I know?

Most human products contain 5-10% benzoyl peroxide and should not be used as they can be very irritating to animals.

Notify your veterinarian if your animal's condition does not improve in 7 days or worsens despite this treatment.

As with all prescribed medications, Benzoyl peroxide shampoo should only be used on the animal for which it was prescribed.
