What is PanaKare Plus for Dogs and Cats?
- PanaKare Plus relieves the symptoms of Pancreatic Insufficiency Disorder (PID) in dogs and cats. PID is also known as EPI, or Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency.
- This prescription medication replaces the pancreatic enzymes that your dog or cat doesn’t produce but needs to digest the protein, sugar, and fat in food.
- PanaKare Plus is also fortified with Vitamins, A, D and E to boost your pet’s health.
Why do cats and dogs use PanaKare Plus?
- Dogs and cats with maldigestion, or Pancreatic Insufficiency Disorder (PID)/ Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), suffer from weight loss, discomfort, and hair loss because they can’t properly digest the nutrients in food.
- The condition shuts down the pancreas, which produces digestive enzymes.
- PanaKare Plus replaces those enzymes so that your pet can digest needed proteins, sugars, and fats from food.
What else should I know about PanaKare Plus?
- Improves digestion and nutrition absorption in pets with PID/ EPI.
- Fast acting.
- Powder form mixes easily with food.
- Pancreatic enzymes made from a pork product.
- Vitamins A, D, and E for extra nutrition.
What problems could my dog or cat have with PanaKare Plus?
- Cats often do not like the taste of the pancreatic enzymes powder and may be more likely to take tablets or capsules made from crushed tablets. Some cats also may eat one brand of enzymes and not another. Talk to your veterinarian if you are havign trouble with medicating your cat.
How do you use PanaKare Plus?
- PanaKare Plus works best when mixed with food and food is allowed to sit before feeding. Always follow your veterinarian's directions for use.
- If using tablets, make sure that your cat or dog gets water or food right after taking the tablets. This may reduce the risk of damage to the esophagous.
- Avoid inhaling powder as it may cause lung irritation or worsen asthma.
- Avoid contacting your skin with the powder. Wash any powder from your skin as soon as possible.
What is in PanaKare Plus?
- PanaKare Plus contains pancreatic enzymes that break down the nutrients in food.
- These enzymes typically come from pork sources.

Our male Corgi has been on this medication for 10 years now and we are thoroughly pleased with this medication. He is full of energy & has lived a very healthy life taking this medicine on a daily basis. He has always been on the slender side of his breed, but the medication took care of his medical problem & for that we are thankful!

Comments about PanaKare Plus
My vet recommended this product for my 8 year old cat who was recently diagnosed with endocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). My cat Remington was very sick and wouldn't eat and hardly would respond to my fiancé and I trying to wake him up. Once we got him on this medicine he immediately went back to his normal self! He is back to playing and snuggling and running around the house! This medicine has been amazing for Remington. We give him half a tablet 15 minutes before every meal with a treat and he eats it, no problem. I can't believe what a difference this medicine has made! Thank you so much! Aimee, Edward and Remington too

I will buy again.

Works well for managing our pug's EPI, we use about one scoop with 6oz of food, and let it incubate about 30 minutes before feeding, twice a day.

Comments about PanaKare Plus
After my dog was diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), I was deeply worried about a life-long regimen of expensive injections and medication. Fortunately, as a first line of defense, the vet prescribed PanaKare Plus tablets to see if it was effective. Within a week of usage, her weight increased by 2 lbs, and her stool returned to a normal coloration. I've been giving her the tablets for 3 weeks and am happy to report that she's gained a total of 7.2 lbs thus far and is back to her perky self.
I would buy PanaKare again

Comments about PanaKare Plus
Our corgi has taken this med for 6 years for his pancreatic insufficiency. We are pleased with the results of this med, he has this everyday on his food without fail. It is easy to apply over top of food & mixed in, our dog has never rejected it. We feel we would not have our corgi today without this med.

Q
I have a 3 year old Frenchie who suffers from IBD, food allergies and EPI. Due to his food allergies, we have to make his food. Because its perishable, we have to store in the refrigerator. I believe the fact the food is cold when I mix in the PanaKare powder may reduce its effectiveness. Can you confirm if this is accurate. If so, what are my options? Heat the food? Mix powder with warm water and then mix into food??
- Asked by Frenchie
-
Verified Reply - The storage directions for PanaKare Plus state to store the powder in a cool, dry place not exceeding 95 degrees F. If heated, the powder will not be guaranteed to work as well. If you have additional concerns or would like further recommendations, consult your dog's veterinarian.

Q
What if the wrong dog eats the food with this in it??
- Asked by asdf

Q
My dog will not eat his food with panakare.I have put it in pureed fruit and froze it. Does this effect the enzyme effectiveness??
- Asked by Schultz
-
Verified Reply - According to the manufacturer, freezing the PanaKare Plus will decrease the effectiveness of the enzymes and is not recommended. They suggest mixing it with soft foods at the time of feeding and letting it stand for 15-20 minutes to avoid oral ulcers. PanaKare Plus is also available in a tablet dosage form.

Q
My Cavalier King Charles is a 4 year old rescue dog. When I got him a few months ago he was on Panakare Plus tablets. He seemed to tolerate these well. I gave them to him with just a little wet food, then gave him his dry food. The Vet he was checked out by before I got him gave me a prescription for a powder. My dog doesn't seem to tolerate this as well(he runs away from his food bowl and has to be coaxed back to eat) and the inconvenience of having to make his food up and them wait 20 minutes to feed is more difficult. Is there any qualitative difference between the powder and tablets? I'd much prefer to go back to the tablets. thanks for your help.?
- Asked by Mary Frances
-
Verified Reply - Panakare Plus tablets and powder contain pancreatic enzymes to help dogs digest food when they don't make enough of these enzymes. The powder must sit on the food for 20 minutes before your dog eats it because it pre-digests the food. The enzymes contained in Panakare Plus products are broken down by the stomach. Panakare Plus tablets have a special enteric coating that allows the enzymes to get past the stomach and avoid being broken down. This is why tablets can be given at the same time as the meal. The tablets and powder contain the same enzymes, but in different concentrations. This is because it is not possible to make the tablets big enough for the dose to be exactly equivalent to the powder. During our discussion with the manufacturer, they said that the only reason to choose one formulation over the other is for picky eaters. If a dog has issues with taking tablets, it is preferable to give Panakare Plus Powder, and if they dislike the taste of the powder, it is preferable to use Panakare Plus tablets. The only qualitative difference between the powder and tablets is the differing concentrations of enzymes. Discuss this with your veterinarian, and he or she will probably be willing to change your prescription to the tablets.

Q
Is the pill big and can it be crushed? Currently my dog is on the powder, thanks?
- Asked by Kemit

Open Reply - VetRxDirect These tablets are not substantially larger than average sized tablets. They can be crushed and are to be administered before a meal. Talk with your veterinarian about whether switching to the tablet form is a good option for your dog. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Q
Hi My dog has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (epi) will this work for him??
- Asked by amys0222
-
Open Reply - VetRxDirect Yes, PanaKare Plus is used to provide pets with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (epi) with the enzymes he or she needs to properly digest proteins, fats and sugars in their diet. The tablet form of PanaKare Plus should be administered before each meal. The powder form needs to be thoroughly mixed with each meal and allowed to stand at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes prior to feeding. The correct dose of this medication should be determined by your veterinarian based on your pet’s weight and the severity of the condition. Thank you, VetRxDirect

Q
My cat has EPI and is not eating the powder form well on its wet food. Is there a problem with using the tablet form. My vet seems hesitate to do this they seem to think it will it harm their stomach linings to have the pill form. Thank you?
- Asked by Lucie
-
Open Reply - VetRxDirect Lucie, The tablet dosage form contains the same active ingredients as the powder: lipase, protease, amylase, and Vitamins A, D, and E. The manufacturer states that the tablets are not meant to be mixed with food. The results may differ with the tablet compared to the powder form. A veterinary reference book states that the powdered form of PanaKare Plus is preferred over the tablets but does not specifically state why. We advise that you further discuss this issue with your veterinarian to determine the best course of therapy for your cat. Thank you, VetRxDirect
