What are Azopt Eye Drops for Dogs and Cats?

  • Azopt, which is 1% brinzolamide, is a prescription eye suspension used to decrease eye pressure in dogs and cats.
  • In healthy eyes, the aqueous humor or the fluid in the eyes drains from the eye through a tiny perforated channel.
  • If your cat or dog has glaucoma, that channel may become blocked, and the aqueous humor then builds up in the eye.
  • This creates pressure that can damage the optic nerve over time.
  • Azopt (brinzolamide) lowers the eye pressure and reduces the symptoms of glaucoma, protecting your pet's sight.

Why do cats and dogs use Azopt?

  • Azopt contains brinzolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, which decreases intraocular pressure by reducing the production of aqueous humor, or eye fluid.
  • Brinzolamide may be prescribed to manage primary or secondary glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

What else should I know about Azopt?

  • People with allergies to sulfa medications should handle this drug with care.
