  • Q:

Can I get Tylan in a pill form, equivalent to 1/16th of a teaspoon?
Asked on 3/9/2015 by Suzy0821 from Ridgefield, NJ, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

VetRxDirect has the ability to compound Tylan into capsules. 1/16th of a teaspoon will be around 162.5mg of Tylan. A valid written prescription from a veterinarian is required in order for VetRxDirect to compound tylosin capsules. Contact your veterinarian to determine if tylosin compounded capsules are an appropriate therapy for your pet.

we have egg laying hens, occaisionally more than i like, they will get sick and eventually die, my hatchery recommended vetRX as a maintenance program, is this the product i need or do i really need to go to a veternarian?
    Asked on 9/27/2013 by joni

    • A:

      Joni,

According to the Tylan label, it can be used for chickens as an aid in the treatment of chronic respiratory disease (CRD).  More detailed information about uses for chickens can be found here.  We recommend consulting a veterinarian before starting any medication regimine.  If you are looking for the product called vetrx, we do not carry that.

      Thank you,

  • Q:

what is the capsule amount equivilent to 1/2 teaspoon of tylan powder 100 g
    Asked on 8/30/2013 by marjorie

    1 answer

    • A:

Saunders Handbook of Veterinary Drugs, 3rd edition indicates a teaspoon of tylosin soluble powder 100gm per bottle (which is used in the compounded capsules), would weigh approximately 3 grams.  Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, 7th edition, states when using tylosin soluble powder, one level teaspoonful of powder contains approximately 2.5-2.7 grams of tylosin; 1/8 teaspoonful contains approximately 325mg tylosin.  Based on these references, 1/2 teaspoon would weigh approximately 1.25-1.5 grams (1,250mg-1,500mg).  Please consult with your veterinarian on the proper dosing when changing from tylosin powder to tylosin compounded capsules.
