Synotic is a prescription otic (or ear) solution containing fluocinolone acetonide 0.01% and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) 60%. Fluocinolone is a steroid and DMSO helps the steroid get into the ear and skin. Synotic is indicated for the relief of itching and inflammation due to acute and chronic ear inflammation in dogs. Synotic should not be used in dogs with tuberculosis, hyperadrenocorticism, peptic ulcers, pregnant dogs, and dogs with a current infection. It is important to follow your veterinarian’s recommendation on dosing in your dog. Synotic should be limited to a 14 day treatment and a total of 17 mL throughout the course of treatment. Cleaning your dog’s ear(s) prior to administering Synotic and massaging the ear externally after putting the drops in the ear is important for full effectiveness.
