Prednisolone Eye Drops

Dogs can experience swelling in the eye due to infection, surgical procedures, or injury. If your pet suffers from eye inflammation, your veterinarian may prescribe Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic sterile eye drops to reduce swelling and pain.

  • Treats inflammation and pain in dog’s eyes
  • For eye pain resulting from infection, surgery, and injury
  • Dropper top for convenient application

Sterile Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic eye drops are effective for reducing uncomfortable, painful swelling in dog’s eyes. Your veterinarian may prescribe this medication if your dog is suffering eye discomfort due to injury or infection such as conjunctivitis, scleritis, and some types of keratitis. Prednisolone Ophthalmic is also recommended for reducing swelling, redness, burning, and pain after eye surgery. Prednisolone is in a class of powerful medications called corticosteroids that block inflammation and allergic reactions.  The thin dropper top makes it easier to administer these drops in your dog’s eyes.

  • Q:

How many drops in a 5ml bottle?
Asked on 4/5/2015 by josir from Northport, AL, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

The standard conversion is 20 drops per mL. So a 5 mL volume will consist of around 100 drops. The manufacturer of our prednisolone acetate doesn’t state the number of drops for the bottle. The drop will vary depending on the thickness of liquid as well as the drop bottle opening.

  • Q:

Hi, my canine was diagnosed with pannus and the vet  has prescribed this along with cyclosporine. The first bottle that we got was a pink color, is this the same thing?
Asked on 2/23/2015 by topper from El Paso, TX, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Generic prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension is manufactured by several companies, each with different product packaging for the same drug. It's best to make sure the bottle has the same drug name as your previous prescription. Thank you.

  • Q:

Why is the 15 ml sample greater than thre times the price of the 5 mL size. Shouldn't it be less?
Asked on 10/4/2014 by TommyT from Chicago, IL, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Prices are listed online based on acquisition costs. Unfortunately, the Prednisolone is very hard to get so the manufacturer is able to charge however much they want.

I this medication safe for a human to take
Asked on 9/9/2014 by bobby from ny, ny

    1 answer

    • A:

      Bobby,

Prednisolone is a prescription-only medication that does have indications for use in humans. Just as a veterinarian would diagnose and select the appropriate dose of prescription medication for your pet, a medical doctor would do the same for a person on an individual patient basis.

  • Q:

which is the difference between 15.ml.10.ml and 5.ml
    Asked on 6/11/2014 by lupe

    1 answer

    • A:

      Lupe,

The mL refers to milliliters which is the volume of the product. Prednisolone acetate ophthalmic comes in three different sizes, 5 milliliters, 10 milliliters, and 15 milliliters. All three are the same strength (1%) but vary in volume.

  • Q:

Why is your prednisone acetate 5ml 1% so expensive $66 when other websites sell prednisone acetate 15 ml 1/% for $21?
Asked on 2/19/2014 by Margi81505 from Grand Junction, CO, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      Margi,

Recently a nationwide shortage has driven up the acquisition cost of prednisolone. Many pharmacies are currently out of stock on the eye drops, and once they decide to carry it again, their prices will reflect current acquisition costs for the medication. When the price originally rose, we did not stock the medication either, but decided that we were doing a greater disservice by not making it available to pet owners in need of the medication. The price reflects the current cost of the medication; though we hope that the acquisition cost will become more reasonable in the near future, which will allow us to lower the price again.

      Thank you,
      VetRxDirect

  • Q:

Are there any alternatives to this medication?
Asked on 2/17/2014 by mjwendell from Denver, CO, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Prednisolone acetate is a corticosteroid eye suspension used to reduce inflammation associated with different types of eye problems found in your pet’s eye(s). Dexamethasone sodium phosphate is another corticosteroid eye medication but may not be as effective as prednisolone for certain types of eye issues. We recommend contacting your pet's veterinarian to determine whether or not an alternative drug therapy is appropriate for your pet.

Comments about Sandoz Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension:

My dog has pannus and needs these drops everyday. I don't like that I have to give her prednisone, but they work. In the past year this product's price has skyrocketed, but this company has kept the price as low as possible.

Comments about Sandoz Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension:

This is a great product but very hard to find lately so I'm glad I was able to find it on your site. The price is way out of what anyone can afford though, especially when it was only $21. not too long ago at my veterinarian's office. But it is priced high on every sight I've seen lately and everyone else was out of stock. It was mailed very quickly so overall I think VetRXDirect is a good place to buy pet prescriptions.
