      Aisha,

Misprostal is a human medication that has uses in veterinary pharmacy. It is a prescribed medication that, in veterinary pharmacy, is commonly used to prevent gastrointestinal ulcers or gastrointestinal adverse effects (such as anorexia, vomiting) associated with NSAID (i.e. carprofen) therapy. Your pet's veterinarian will be able to best decide if misoprostal is right for your pet.

Hi, I was wondering if this same medicine applies in helping with the color of the dogs stool? Because my dog stools turns out decayed looking right after bowel movement. The color is white and dried. Abnormal from the usual.

Asked on 12/26/2013 by papa from Georgia, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Cytotec is the brand name for misoprostol, which is the drug name. We do not carry the brand name medication, only the generic. It is a prescription medication, and requires approval from your pet's veterinarian before dispensing.

Do I need to submit a Rx when I buy this from this site?
    Asked on 11/15/2013 by gladys

    1 answer

    • A:

      Gladys,

Misoprostal is a prescription medication in the United States and will require a prescription to order.  We can only accept prescriptions from licensed United States veterinarians, however we can accept prescriptions in several ways.  Once an order is placed, we can fax your pet's veterinarian, and the clinic can fax it back or call in the approval.  We can also accept original written prescriptions through the mail.

      Thank you,

  • Q:

Misoprostol is a human medication, so is it safe for humans to take this medication?
    Asked on 10/27/2013 by Darcy

    1 answer

    • A:

      Darcy,

Misoprostal is a human medication, many medications used in veterinary pharmacy are also human medications.  We, however, do not dispense for human use, as we are licensed as a veterinary pharmacy and can accept prescriptions from licensed United States veterinarians only.  You should contact your physician for any questions regarding your own medication, and you should never take medication that has not been prescribed for you by your own physician.

      Thank you,
