HydrOXYzine Hydrochloride (Generic) Tablets for Dogs and Cats

Hydroxyzine is commonly used as an antihistamine, anti-itch and sedative product for pets. Conditions for use may include allergic reactions or hypersensitivity reactions that may or may not have been in contact with an allergen. This drug has been used in dogs, cats, ferrets, horses, and birds, and can be found in many dosage forms.

After giving your pet a dose, hydroxyzine can last for 6-8 hours in dogs and up to 12 hours in cats. The most common adverse effect seen in pets is sedation. Sometimes, this medication can have the opposite effect and lead to excitability. Rarely, dogs may get tremors and cats may become thirsty or develop behavioral changes.

If you miss giving your pet the dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your normal schedule. Do not double up on doses.

I have a Chihuahua she weighs 10 lbs should I give her a half or a whole pill they are 25mg?

    • A:

      Proe,

With any prescription medication, it is important to follow the directions and dosage prescribed by the veterinarian. It is also important to report to your veterinarian any side effects and how well this medication is working for your dog. The medication may need to be changed or the dose adjusted if noticeable improvement is not seen in your dog.

      Thank you,

Comments about KVK-TECH HydrOXYzine Hydrochloride:

I tend to stay away from prescription meds but this is the only medication that works on my Australian Shepard Mix. He has suffered for years with skin allergies in NC due to grass/tree pollen. He still scratches but it's not constant and he doesn't chew his paws anymore. I haven't seen any side effects either. I get the uncoated tablets because I need to break them in half to adjust his dosage. I only give this to him when it's needed. The price on VetRxDirect is fantastic. Can't get this price from my vets office!
