Medicated Ear Flush with Hydrocortisone for Pets

Medicated ear flush with Hydrocortisone is used in dogs, cats and horses to clean and soothe the ear during an active ear infection. Medicated ear flush with Hydrocortisone usually contains a drying agent as well as a cleaning agent that is active against bacteria. Removing excess debris and wax from an infected ear is an important component of successfully treating ear disease as it allows for other medications to penetrate deeper into the canal. The hydrocortisone helps to reduce the inflammation (redness, swelling, itching, and irritation) in corticosteroid responsive external ear conditions.

• To assist with cleaning and promote drying the ear during an active ear infection
• To reduce inflammation, itching and irritation

• Animals with a ruptured ear drum
• Animals with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients

Read and follow the prescription label carefully.
Consult with your veterinarian regarding the frequency of cleaning during an active ear infection.
Do not skip or stop cleaning without consulting your veterinarian.
Cleaning frequency may be adjusted based upon an assessment of how your animal is responding clinically.

Wait until after the ear is clean and dry before administering any medications into the ear.
It may be necessary to clip excess hair from around the ear to assist with cleaning and applying medications.
Avoid getting this product in your animal's eyes, nose, or mouth.

If you are having difficulty cleaning the ear or your animal is in discomfort, contact your veterinarian.
Call ahead for refills.
Ideally, give this medication at the same time(s) daily.

• Check label directions and shake the bottle if necessary
• Lift the ear flap so that it is pointing straight up
• Apply the ear flush liberally into the canal
• Massage near the base of the ear to encourage the debris to soften
• Allow your pet to shake their head to assist with removal of the fluid and debris
• Wipe away any loose debris from the ear flap and canal with a cloth, gauze, or cotton ball
• You may need to repeat several times depending on the amount of debris that is present
• Do not use cotton applicator swabs in the canal due to potential for injury
• Wash your hands after cleaning your animal's ears
• Always praise and reward your animal to encourage cooperation

If a cleaning is missed, go back to the normal cleaning schedule as soon as possible. Remember to allow for drying time if you are also applying ear medications.

• All medicines and supplements that you are giving your animal or plan to give your animal, including those you can get without a prescription. Your veterinarian may want to check that all of your animal’s medications can be used together.
• If your animal is pregnant, nursing or if you plan to breed your animal

Medicated ear flush with Hydrocortisone should be stored in a childproof container in a cool, dry place at room temperature away from heat and direct sunlight.
Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact, flush eyes with water and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
Keep this and all medication out of reach of children and animals.
Wash hands after using.
Call your physician immediately if you accidentally ingest this product.

• If redness, irritation, or swelling persists or increases, discontinue use and consult your veterinarian
• If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian

• Do not give new food or medications without first talking to your veterinarian
• If your animal experiences any unusual reactions when taking multiple medications, contact your veterinarian

Contact your veterinarian immediately if your animal has accidentally ingested this medication or has received more than the prescribed amount.

Notify your veterinarian if your animal’s condition does not improve or worsens despite this treatment.

It is important to have any ear problems assessed by a veterinarian prior to applying any medications as incorrect treatment can result in damage to the ear.

Discuss with your veterinarian what is recommended to treat underlying conditions that may predispose your animal to reoccurring ear problems.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Ear use: Apply a few drops into the ear canal. Gently rub the base of the ear then wipe the interior of the ear flap with cotton or tissue.

External Use: Apply on the targeted area with a compress.

Dosage: The veterinarian’s recommendations should be observed.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE: Do not swallow. Avoid contact with the eyes.
