Cestex Tablets: Tapeworm Removal Medication for Pets
What are Cestex tablets used for: Cestex tablets are used to treat tapeworm infections in dogs and cats older than 7 weeks of age. Cestex tablets will not be effective against any worms besides tapeworms, thus a definitive diagnosis and prescription from a veterinarian is required. Cestex causes the tapeworms to detach from the host.
What else should you know about Cestex: Very little of Cestex is absorbed from the stomach and intestinal tract, so the side effects are limited. The most common side effects are vomiting and diarrhea. Worm fragments may still be seen in the stool after treating with Cestex. Cestex can be given with or without food, but it is not recommended to have your pet fast before administering it. A single dose is usually all that is required to fully treat the tapeworm infection, but it is important to prevent reinfestation in your pet. Consult your pet's veterinarian about how to prevent your pet from getting another tapeworm infection.

The best option for my cat
From Traverse City, MIComments about Cestex (epsiprantel)My cat believes in eating organic, thus he acquires tapeworms about five times a year in spite of using Revolution for heartworms and fleas. Taking him to the vet for the injection treatment is so much more expensive and less convenient, besides I like how Cestex is (for the most part) not absorbed from the GI tract. Cestex has never failed to immediately resolve his tapeworm infestations. I shopped around, and found the best value here. Thanks! -

Is it okay to administer this medication to a nursing mother??

Can these pills be broken in half? I have 20 cats of various weights that I need to treat, as well as several dogs in the 41 - 50# weight range. So, I will need some 12.5mg tabs, some 25mg tabs, as well as five 125mg tabs.?

Cestex is used to remove tapeworms in both dogs and cats and requires a prescription from your veterinarian. Per the manufacturer, the tablets may be crumbled and mixed in with food. Also to note, fasting is not necessary or recommended.

It depends on the medication as to what type of worms it covers. The Cestex only treats tapeworms whereas something like Panacur C treats and controls roundworms, whipworms, hookworms and some tapeworms. Linda, Yes, Cestex does require a prescription from the veterinarian. We can accept the prescription in a couple of different ways. Once an order has been placed, we can send a faxed prescription request to the veterinarian for approval, or the veterinarian may choose to issue you a written prescription, which you can then mail to us. My yorkie poo is 11 lbs and the vet asst told me to give her 2cestex today (12.5 mg) the other vet asst said one today and one in 2 weeks, what is the correct dosage? ?

Panhandler1, Cestex (espiprantel) dosed per weight and typically taken as a single-dose treatment. However, if the pet is exposed to the infected intermediate host then retreatment may be required.
