  • Q:

Can you use this on a dog who is nursing 12 puppies
Asked on 6/2/2014 by cbmorgans from Virginia, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Muricin is FDA-approved for treatment of bacterial infections in dogs. Unfortunately, safety of use in pregnant or breeding animals has not been determined for this medication. It is not known whether Muricin is excreted in milk. Because of potential drug exposure to milk in nursing dogs, please consult your dog’s veterinarian regarding nursing safety before giving Muricin.

    Asked on 10/23/2013 by Sandy

    1 answer

    • A:

As we are a veterinary pharmacy, we do not dispense for human use.  Muricin ointment is a prescription item and we require a prescription from a licensed United States veterinarian prior to dispensing.  Your own physician would be the best resource for what medication would be right for you.

I ordered mupirocin topical ointment 2% red on box but am not sure this is the correct one. $12.99 for 22gram tube.I see one with yellow on the box $18.49 for 15gram mupirocin 2%. What is the difference in these two products?.

    • A:

This product with the yellow on the box is Muricin, an animal branded 2% mupirocin product. The mupirocin product with red, white and blue on the box is a generic 2% mupirocin topical ointment. Both products contain the same concentration of active drug.
