Iverhart Plus Flavored Chewables

For strong, effective, economical protection from heartworm, roundworms and hookworms, talk to your veterinarian about Iverhart Plus chewables for your dog. Iverhart Plus is an alternative to Heartgard Plus and Tri-Heart Plus.

  • Treats and controls heartworm, roundworms and hookworms
  • Pork liver flavor chewables dogs love
  • Convenient monthly dosing

Generic Iverhart Plus combines the same active ingredients as the brand name heartworm medications but at a lower cost. This monthly medicine is an anthelmintic (dewormer), which blends Ivermectin to control heartworm with Pyrantel pamoate to kill hookworms and roundworms. Because the chewable tablets are pork liver flavored, Iverheart Plus is ideal for dogs that are sensitive to beef products and can’t take some of the beef-flavored brand name medications.

What you should know about Iverhart Plus:

  • Safe for dogs 6 weeks of age and older and for pregnant and breeding females.
  • Some herding breeds may be more sensitive to this medication. Discuss this with your veterinarian.
  • Follow dosing directions exactly - don’t give your dog more medication than directed and don’t skip doses.
  • Read the label carefully for information about storage, possible side effects, and drug interactions.

Iverhart Plus is sold as a prescription drug in 6 or 12 pack supplies per pet per order.

Most veterinarians require a heartworm test before prescribing a year's supply of heartworm preventative.

Talk with your veterinarian for more information.

Typically, veterinarians will authorize a maximum of 12 months of Iverhart Plus heartworm preventative per pet per year.  This helps to ensure proper dosing and prevents products from being used past their expiration date.

VetRxDirect must obtain separate prescription authorizations for each pet and prescription item.  We are unable to accept single prescription authorizations for multiple pets.

See your veterinarian for your dog's heartworm test.  While you’re there, ask about the best flea and tick preventative products for your pets and your area. Your veterinarian is the best source for this information.

  • Q:

I have a Basset Beagle that ways 24lbs on a good day and can bump up to 27 lbs at times. Should I go to the higher weight or stay at the "up to 25 lbs" . Thank you.
Asked on 11/20/2014 by jennlee from Pittsburgh, PA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

A manufacturer representative states that in order for your pet to be fully covered by the medication the dosage should be increased to the next dosage range “26 to 50 lb” since your pet’s weight fluctuates in this dosing range. Though uncommon, please monitor your pet the first day following the dose for adverse effects such as vomiting or diarrhea. If any potential side effects are observed while on this therapy please follow up with your veterinarian.

I gave my mini dauchound his iverhart max tablet and he threw up. can I give him another if I don't think he digested it first
    Asked on 2/22/2014 by kell

    1 answer

    • A:

You will need to contact your pet's veterinarian with the details of this question. Vomiting is a rare adverse event that can occur with Iverhart Max, occurring in approximately 1.1% of doses administered. Your veterinarian may recommend redosing this medication to ensure that your dog protected from heartworms and intestinal parasites.

I don't understand how you can be totally out of Iverhart Plus in all weight categories. I've noticed other website providers are out. What is going on please?
Asked on 1/16/2014 by james from Kingwood, Houston, TX, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      James,

Iverhart Plus had a recall issue last spring. There were concerns about the medication not being as effective as it was supposed to be for as long as it was supposed to be. While the manufacturer addresses issues in their production line, they have ceased production. The Iverhart Plus that was available after the recall has since expired. Until the manufacturer has resumed production, Iverhart Plus will not be available. Once it is available again, we will update our website with the availability and the new price.

Is this for Fleas & Heart worms?
Asked on 1/2/2014 by Wildthing50 from Jefferson, LA, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

Iverhart Plus is a heartworm preventative containing ivermectin and pyrantel. It also protects against roundworms and hookworms, however it does not protects against fleas. You should check with your dog's veterinarian for a recommendation on a good flea and tick preventative for your area.

  • Q:

why is iverheart medication out of stock for so long when it is avail else where is it cheap is that why
Asked on 12/28/2013 by john from Florida, United States

    1 answer

    • A:

      John,

Iverhart Plus has been out of stock for a while due to a recall issue that caused the manufacturer to cease production. There was some Iverhart Plus still available for a short while after the recall was announced, however the expiration dates on the Iverhart Plus that was not recalled have since passed. The manufacturer is addressing efficacy issues that caused some Iverhart Plus to be not as effective as intended for as long as intended, and once those issues have been addressed, we expect that Iverhart Plus will be available again. We do not know what the price for the Iverhart Plus will be once it is available again.

(If you think you may have a lot number affected by the recall, please contact the manufacturer, who will be able to assist you)

      Thank you,

  • Q:

how did my dog get hookworms while on Iverhart Plus???
    Asked on 10/11/2013 by Terry

    1 answer

    • A:

      Terry,

There was a retail-level recall of some of the lot numbers for Iverhart Plus.  It is recommended that you contact Virbac, the manufacturer, who will be able to assist you in the event that the lot number for your dog's Iverhart Plus is one that they have recalled.

      Thank you,

Currently both medications are out of stock. What is the projected date when these will be in stock?
    Asked on 9/23/2013 by Wes

    1 answer

    • A:

      Wes,

Iverhart Plus has been out of stock for a while due to a retail-level recall issue that caused the manufacturer to stop production. Once the manufacturer has addressed the production issues, we expect Iverhart Plus to be available again, however we do not have a projected date.

(If you think you may have a lot number affected by the recall, please contact the manufacturer, who will be able to assist you)

      Thank you, VetRxDirect

  • Q:

The picture of this product for dogs up to 50 lbs is 67 mcg. Do we need to cut the pill in half for 6-8 lb dogs? Thanks
    Asked on 9/2/2013 by ML

    1 answer

    • A:

      ML,

The picture you see is based on which product is selected on the drop down next to the '1. Select Product'. Based on the product variation selected, the appropriate sized pill will be filled based on the weight of your dog.

Because the active drug may not be consistent throughout the entire chewable tablet, heartworm preventatives should never be cut to smaller doses.

Iverhart Plus is currently out-of-stock. Your pet's veterinarian will help you select an alternative heartworm medication for your dog and your area.

      Thank you,

      VetRxDirect

  • Q:

I've noticed that every website I've checked is out of stock on this product. Has there been a recall or some kind of issue with this medication?
    Asked on 8/28/2013 by Danielle

    1 answer

    • A:

      Danielle,

Yes, the Iverhart Plus product has been recalled at the clinic/pharmacy level by the manufacturer. There are many other dog heartworm preventatives available from VetRxDirect. Talk with your pet's veterinarian about which one is best for your dog.

      Thank you,

Comments about Virbac Iverhart Plus Flavored Chewables for Dogs:

My vet even recommended ordering online, same brand etc said it's cheaper, well who doesn't like saving money? :)
I love VetRxDirect, my products always come on time, they send a treat and it's cheaper than 1800PetMeds! My dog isn't a huge fan of taking pills, but it's crazy, I give him the IverHart Plus once a month and he eats it like candy, as if I'm giving him a treat, lol, so we all win! :)

I definitely recommend this product, my dog likes it, I like the price and it protects my dog, which is the most important!
